Aaliyah Alleyne and Shreyanka Patil Help Barbados Royals clinch 3rd Straight Women’s CPL Title

The two most deserving and consistent sides in the 4th edition of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) advanced to the grand finale at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. Both sides, Barbados Royals and Guyana Amazon Warriors, were chasing history in the title clash on September 17, 2025.

The Royals, despite the absence of their regular skipper Hayley Matthews, had a flawless campaign in the league stages, as a result, finishing at the top of the points table with 8 points from 4 games. The Warriors, on the other hand, finished 2nd with four points from as many games, including a couple of victories and a couple of defeats in the league stages.

Collective contributions give Guyana Amazon Warriors a fighting total

Chinelle Henry trusted her bowling unit to deliver the first blow in an all-important grand finale. The Warriors’ openers, Realeanna Grimmond and Amy Hunter, came out with a determination to make the opportunity count to put as many runs on the board as possible. The pair gave the home side a promising start with a 34-run opening stand.

A marginal umpire’s call went against the Warriors, leading to the departure of Realenna Grimmond (17 off 18 balls) in the final ball of the powerplay. Shamilia Connell provided the first breakthrough for the Royals. Stafanie Taylor joined Amy Hunter at the crease, and just as the duo were rebuilding a solid platform, an unfortunate leg injury to Stafanie Taylor (15 off 12 balls) saw her being carried off the field on a stretcher.

Laura Harris replaced her at the crease, and she played a quick-fire cameo (18 off 8 balls) before Aaliyah Alleyne cleaned her up in the 12th over of the innings to provide the 2nd breakthrough for her side. A strong finish from Dane Van Niekerk (27* off 26 balls), and skipper Shemaine Campbelle (28* off 20 balls) took the Amazon Warriors (136/3) closer to the 140-run mark in their quota of 20 overs. Amy Hunter (29 off 36 balls) top-scored with the bat for the Warriors.

Shreyanka Patil and Aaliyah Alleyne hold their nerve to complete threepeat

Chasing a tricky total of 137, the Royals openers Qiana Joseph and Chamari Athapaththu got their side off to a flying start with a 20-run opening stand. Molly Penfold broke the stand, by sending Qiana Joseph back to the pavilion in the 3rd over of the run chase to provide the 1st breakthrough for the Amazon Warriors. Substantial partnerships in the context of the run chase kept them ahead in the game.

However, an impressive fightback from the Warriors bowlers after the departure of Kycia Knight (31 off 37 balls) in the 14th over ensured the game went down to the wire. The equation came down to 19 runs needed from the final two overs of the chase. Aaliyah Alleyne (17* off 9 balls) stayed calm with Shreyanka Patil (10* off 6 balls) smashing a couple of consecutive boundaries as soon as she walked out to bat in the 18th over of the innings, easing the pressure for her side.

The Barbados Royals eventually got over the line with three wickets in hand and a couple of balls to spare, to clinch their 3rd consecutive championship title in the tournament in just 4 editions of the WCPL. Chamari Athapaththu (25 off 20 balls), Courtney Webb (31 off 27 balls), and Kycia Knight (31 off 37 balls) chipped in with vital contributions with the bat for their side.

Aaliyah Alleyne was awarded the Player of the Match for her impressive all-round contributions, returning with match figures (4-0-32-1) in her spell with the ball for her side and scoring a vital cameo (17* off 9 balls) with the bat for her side. Chamari Athapaththu was awarded the Player of the Tournament for scoring 194 runs with the bat and picking up 7 wickets with the ball for her side, pivotal in the Royals title triumph this season.
