Match 44: Surrey Women vs The Blaze Women

Batting first, Surrey faced early setbacks as their top order failed to capitalize on starts. Captain Bryony Smith managed 18 off 26, while Alice Davidson-Richards added a brisk 27 off 23. Kira Chathli (19 off 18) and Grace Harris (26 off 19) also chipped in, but none could convert their innings into a big score. Surrey’s middle and lower order faltered, with several batters falling in single digits, leaving the side reeling.

A late burst from Phoebe Franklin (18 off 9) and Ryana MacDonald-Gay (10* off 8) helped Surrey scrape their way to 132/9 in 20 overs. The Blaze bowling unit kept things tight, led by Sarah Glenn’s impressive 3/20, while Heather Graham picked up 2/30 in 3 overs and Kirstie Gordon chipped in with 1/22 from her spell.

In response, The Blaze’s chase never truly gathered momentum. The top order stuttered, with Marie Kelly (12 off 12) and Georgia Elwiss (12 off 16) departing early. The innings was anchored by Kathryn Bryce, who remained unbeaten on a fighting 53* off 55 balls, and Sarah Bryce contributed 21 off 22.

However, the lack of support from the middle and lower order, many falling cheaply meant The Blaze fell short, finishing at 122/5 in their 20 overs, falling 10 runs short of the required. Surrey’s bowling attack executed their plans brilliantly. Kalea Moore impressed with figures of 2/17, and Ryana MacDonald-Gay continued her all-round impact with 2/14, playing a crucial role in choking the Blaze’s scoring rate during the death overs.

Match 43: Durham Women vs Hampshire Women

Hampshire Women, after being put into bat, struggled to build momentum on a slow surface. Despite a positive start from Ellyse Perry, who scored a brisk 23 off 16 deliveries, and Rhianna Southby anchoring with 25 off 30, the innings soon lost direction. The middle order collapsed under tight bowling pressure- Freya Kemp (1), Abi Norgrove (8), and captain Georgia Adams (4) all fell cheaply.

A few late contributions came from Mary Taylor (12) and Freya Davies, who remained unbeaten with a fighting 20* off 25, helping Hampshire limp to 103/7 in their 20 overs. Durham’s bowling effort was led by a disciplined spell from Phoebe Turner, who returned impressive figures of 3/17, consistently breaking partnerships at key moments. Mady Villiers also played a vital supporting role, picking up 2/23 to stifle Hampshire’s lower-order surge.

In response, Durham Women paced their chase sensibly. Veteran opener Suzie Bates set the tone with a steady 25 off 27 balls, though she lacked support at the top with Emma Marlow departing for a duck. The middle order did just enough to keep the scoreboard ticking, Mady Villiers added 14 off 13, and skipper Hollie Armitage chipped in with 17 off 18.

The standout performance came from Emily Windsor, whose calm and calculated approach ensured Durham crossed the finish line without further hiccups. She remained unbeaten on a fluent 36* off just 23 balls, guiding her team to 104/5 in 15.2 overs and securing an important win, with 5 wickets to spare. For Hampshire, Freya Davies bowled a tidy spell, conceding only 9 runs in 2 overs and picking up a wicket, while Daisy Gibb also impressed with 1/12. However, the bowlers were left with too little to defend.

Match 45: Warwickshire Women vs Somerset Women

Batting first, Warwickshire faced early trouble, losing Meg Austin for a duck and Amu Surenkumar for just 3 runs, putting the side under pressure right from the outset. However, Davina Perrin counter-attacked with a brisk 20 off 13 deliveries, injecting momentum into the innings. The real anchor of the innings was Sterre Kalis, who showcased composure and class with a well-paced 51 off 41 balls, holding the innings together at a crucial stage. She was ably supported by Katie George, who contributed 28 off 29, building a steady partnership through the middle overs.

Later in the innings, fireworks came from Laura Harris, who smashed a blistering 29 off just 13 balls at a strike rate of 223, giving Warwickshire the late surge they needed. However, the lower order failed to capitalize, with several batters falling for single-digit scores, leaving Warwickshire at 149/8 at the end of their 20 overs. For Somerset, Mollie Robbins was the standout with the ball, claiming 4 wickets for 29 runs, including key middle-order dismissals. Chloe Skelton also chipped in with 2/36, helping contain Warwickshire from breaching the 150-mark.

Chasing 150, Somerset struggled to build partnerships as wickets fell at regular intervals. Rebecca Odgers top-scored at the top with 21 off 25 but lacked support from fellow top-order batters. Captain Niamh Holland fell for a duck, while Ruby Davis (5) and Fran Wilson (17 off 10) failed to convert starts. The middle order did show brief resistance through Amanda-Jade Wellington, who played a fine hand of 33 off 25 balls, and Chloe Skelton, who added 23 off 28, but the target proved too steep.

With tight bowling and regular breakthroughs from Warwickshire’s attack, Somerset could only muster 127/9 in their 20 overs. Warwickshire’s bowlers were on point throughout the innings. Hannah Baker spun her way to 3/32, while Phoebe Brett impressed with 2/17, and Millie Taylor contributed with 2/27, ensuring Somerset never gained control of the chase.
