Match 17: Melbourne Renegades vs Sydney Sixers – An all-round performance from skipper Ellyse Perry helps Sixers to win a thriller against Renegades on Saturday.
Winning the toss, Perry opted to bowl on a pitch that was on a slower side. Renegades coming from the loss against Scorchers did not have the great of the start as both the openers got out cheaply, all credits to Kapp, who bowled an extraordinary spell of fast bowling as she picked two openers Sophie Molineux and Wyatt in quick succession.
Following them came in Webb and Beaumont who played cameos of 25 and 29 respectively. The duo tried their best to build a foundation and when it seemed they were heading to a strong partnership Vane Niekerk came into the game and picked up the wickets of Beaumont, Webb, and Wareham. Renegades from 65 for 2 rolled out to 65 for 5 in an over with a team hat trick from Sixers.
To control the situation in came the skipper Duffin who is having a great season with the bat. She scored a superb cameo of 34 runs in just 22 balls which helped Renegades to touch the 120 mark.
At the end of the 20 overs, Renegades finished at 120 for 8. With the ball, it was the duo of Kapp and Niekerk who were excellent and got good support from the rest of bowlers too.
Chasing the target of 121, Sixers too failed in providing a good start as Healy and Gardener got out in quick succession in the bowling of Tahuhu and Brown respectively. Elyse Perry took the responsibility of the chase and she was equally well supported by Vane Niekerk. Both had a partnership of 46 runs which was dominated by Vane Niekerk scoring 30, it looked like Sixers would seal the game with ease but there came a twist as Niekerk got out and other batters got out in quick time. Perry on the other side did not give up and made sure the team reached home safely. Sixers reached the target of 121 in 19.5 overs with Perry remaining unbeaten on 45. With the ball, it was again Brown who was very impressive.
Brief Scores: Renegades 120 for 8 ( Duffin 34, Niekerk 2 for 15) lost to Sixers 121 for 6 ( Perry 45*, 2 for 18) by 4 wickets
