Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland smashes her second ODI ton after scoring 110 against India in the final ODI at WACA.
After two single-digit scores in her previous innings, Sutherland aggregated 110 runs off 95 balls to put Australia in a commanding position as they finished with a score of 298 at the end of the first innings. This was Sutherland’s second ODI century and also achieving a significant feat as she became the first Australian batter to score a century batting at five or below in Women’s ODI cricket.
Remarkably, the WACA holds significance for Sutherland, as it was this very venue where she had scored a monumental double century against South Africa in a Test match earlier this year which is now followed by a century in the ODI format.
The hosts were put into bat first and had an opening partnership of 58 before Arundhati Reddy triggered a collapse with Australia struggling at 72 for three. Coming off two single-digit scores, Sutherland showed grit and determination in the innings.
Initially, Sutherland was involved in a 96-run stand for the fifth wicket alongside Ashleigh Gardner. The partnership helped Australia recover after suffering a collapse earlier in the innings. Sutherland brought her fifty off 59 balls.
Later on, Sutherland was supported by Tahlia McGrath, and switched gears after reaching her fifty, scoring the next 60 runs off 36 balls as she reached her century off 86 balls. Her innings included nine boundaries and four sixes. The duo of Sutherland and McGrath were involved in a 122-run stand for the sixth wicket before Sutherland’s innings came to an end for 110 in the final over through a run-out.
The hosts put up a formidable total of 298 with Annabel Sutherland being Australia’s top scorer with a new ODI best of 100, surpassing her 109* against Ireland.
