The Melbourne Stars, opting to bat first, were rocked early by Hamilton’s fiery opening burst. She struck twice in her very first over, removing star openers Yastika Bhatia and Annabel Sutherland in quick succession. The destruction didn’t stop there—as Hamilton went on to dismiss Meg Lanning, power-hitter Tess Flintoff, and all-rounder Deepti Sharma, finishing with sensational figures of 5 for 8.

Her spell, which included a stunning 20 dot balls, is now etched in history as the equal-second best in WBBL history. It also marked the best-ever bowling performance by a Brisbane Heat player in the competition.

Youngest bowler to bag a five-wicket haul in the WBBL:

Lucy Hamilton (Brisbane Heat): 5/8 vs Melbourne Stars, 2024 (18 years, 193 days)

Hayley Matthews (Hobart Hurricanes): 5/10 vs Brisbane Heat, 2017 (18 years, 296 days)

Alice Capsey (Melbourne Renegades): 5/20 vs Perth Scorchers, 2024 (20 years, 88 days)

Hannah Darlington (Sydney Thunder): 5/27 vs Melbourne Stars, 2023 (21 years, 289 days)

For Hamilton, this extraordinary spell was worth the wait. After going wicketless in her first seven WBBL games, she finally unleashed her potential. Speaking after the game, the young star reflected on her journey, “I wasn’t really thinking about, ‘Oh, I haven’t taken a wicket yet,’ or whatnot. “It was more just a sense of backing what I do, and I know it’ll come. I had to be patient, obviously I’ve played a fair few games. But it finally came, and it was really thrilling.”
