The Thunder were eventually knocked out in the Eliminator, courtesy of a 44-run defeat against the Brisbane Heat led by skipper Jess Jonassen. The 24-year-old wicket-keeper batter Tahlia Wilson has re-signed with the Sydney Thunder for the next couple of seasons in the Women’s Big Bash League. Cricket Australia has announced a short, domestic, state-based tournament coined as the T20 Spring Challenge, to make up for the reduced WBBL games.

The inaugural edition of the tournament will commence on 11th October 2024 and will conclude on 20th October 2024. All 8 WBBL teams, along with the Australian Capital Territory Meteors will be participating in the inaugural edition of the tournament. The tournament is a part of the ambitious 10-year Women and Girls Action Plan, unveiled by Cricket Australia, earlier this year.

“The series allows us to experiment with players in new roles, such as different positions in the batting order. It’s an excellent chance to assess their performance and see how they adapt,” commented the Sydney Thunder Head Coach Lisa Keightley on the tournament being a platform for the franchise and the players to experiment and showcase their adaptability to take up different roles.

The young 24-year-old wicket-keeper batter Tahlia Wilson, representing the Sydney Thunder has been named as the skipper of the franchise for the inaugural edition of the T20 Spring Challenge.

“I’m really looking forward to leading us through the Spring Challenge. I know being captain will come with its challenges, but I’m confident with the support from the more experienced players. I’m ready to be a leader in this team. The Spring Challenge is a great opportunity for us to step up without our World Cup players and internationals,” said the wicket-keeper batter Tahlia Wilson on taking up the leadership role and the tournament being an opportunity for the youngsters to step up.
