Harmanpreet Kaur’s Indian side, after electing to bat, set an imposing target of 172, the highest total in this edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. As Sri Lanka’s innings began, Radha Yadav, subbing in for Harmanpreet, was fielding in the first over bowled by Renuka Singh Thakur. On just the second ball, Sri Lankan opener Vishmi Gunaratne attempted a lofted shot but mistimed it, sending the ball high into the air. Fifties from Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana powered India to a strong total of 172. Sri Lanka, chasing 173, struggled throughout the innings, losing wickets at regular intervals. India’s disciplined bowling attack saw each bowler take a wicket, with pacer Renuka Singh leading the charge by dismantling Sri Lanka’s top order, finishing with impressive figures of 2 for 16 in her four overs, while Asha Sobhana and Arundhati Reddy returned identical figures of 3/19 (4). Sri Lanka were bundled out for 90, handing India a commanding 82-run victory, which propelled them to second place on the points table.
