The upcoming edition is the landmark 10th edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) since its inception in the year 2015. One of the few new rules to be implemented from the upcoming edition onwards is the multi-year deal for the players.

Each of the eight franchises has signed one International star for a three-year deal before the overseas draft on 1st September 2024 (Sunday). In all the Perth Scorchers signed three players, namely, skipper Sophie Devine, wicket-keeper batter Amy Jones, and a destructive Indian top-order batter Dayalan Hemalatha in the overseas draft. “Obviously a great result for us to get Soph as our pre-signed player, as well as welcoming back Jonesy, who was very effective for us in the middle order last season. Hemalatha is a really exciting top-order batter who I think can take the WBBL by storm, I have been lucky enough to play alongside her at the Gujarat Giants, and I have been very impressed with the way she goes about it.” Perth Scorchers batter Beth Mooney speaks about the signings and what the Indian top-order batter brings to the table for the franchise in the upcoming landmark 10th edition of the tournament.

The Perth Scorchers led by skipper Sophie Devine had an impressive campaign in the 9th edition of the tournament. They finished 2nd on the points table with 16 points from 14 games last season. However, they were knocked out in the Challenger courtesy of a heavy 67-run defeat against Brisbane Heat.

They picked up their skipper Sophie Devine in the first round of the draft, for a three-year deal as a part of their pre-season signing. They also picked up the veteran 31-year-old wicket-keeper batter from England in the 2nd round. They went on to pick the 29-year-old Indian top-order batter Dayalan Hemalatha in the 3rd round before eventually passing on in the final round.

Dayalan Hemalatha became the first Indian to be picked by the Perth Scorchers in the Women’s Big Bash League. Perth Scorchers will kickstart their campaign in the 10th edition against the Melbourne Stars at the Western Australia Cricket Association Ground (W.A.C.A), Perth in the 3rd game on the opening day of the tournament on 27th October 2024 from 3 PM IST.
