Summary: 1st T20I – Meg Lanning takes control as Australia defeats West Indies by 6 Wickets

As Windies batters fail again with the bat, Australia woman won by 6 wickets.

1) Meg Lanning: Australian Skipper continued her great form in the series as she scored another half-century against Windies on Saturday. Her unbeaten knock of 54 including 6 fours helped her team to be on winning side.

2) Megan Schutt – The fast bowler proved again why she is the best in the world. She was bang on hitting a good line and length from the very first ball. She ended up her spell with 3 for 31 in 4 overs.

3) Stafanie Taylor: All the batters failed for Windies except the skipper. Though wickets kept on falling, she did not give up, she played with a lot of sense scored an unbeaten 44 including 3 fours and 2 sixes.

Meg Lanning with bat and Megan Schutt with the ball helped Australian Woman win over Windies Woman by 6 wickets at Barbados on Saturday.

Winning the toss Windies opted to bat, Windies openers failed again to provide a good start as Britney Cooper was knocked out by Schutt in the very first over. The very next over, with the brilliance in the field by Jonassen, made Knight depart for 1, following her the wicket-keeper batter Boyce started with a bang by pulling a short one to six over a deep square leg boundary, but the very next ball Schutt used all her experience and deceived her with an excellent slow bouncer which made Boyce to mistime a shot straight into the hands of Schutt.

With her dismissal, the southpaw Stacy King entered the crease even she started well with a boundary, she was looking in good touch but sadly misunderstanding between the wickets made her lose wicket, all credits to Burns as she fired in a direct hit from the short cover region as Windies were Struggling at 18 for 4. In between Stafanie tried her best scoring a couple of fours and an excellent looking six over the cover region. The incoming batter Mclean like others had a great start hitting 3 fours in quick session. As she was batting on 15, she was knocked out by a ripper from Perry, she had no clue about the ball, it was a late inswinging yorker that made stumps rattle over the ground.

Following this, the bowling allrounder Grimmond entered to bat, she played responsibly and had a decent partnership with skipper Taylor, both had a partnership of 29 which was the highest for Windies. Though they had a partnership, it was a slow one. At the end of 12 overs, Windies were at 62 for 5 struggling to pace the inning. Grimmond who was looking good on 15 tried to smash one out of the park but she failed as she completely misread the arm ball from the senior pro-Jonassen and was cleaned up hitting the top of the leg stump. Following her, Henry got out for just 3 runs trying to hit one over covers, Meg Lanning who was at the cover took a stunner which made Henry walk back to the pavilion. In the last over with a six from Taylor straight over the bowlers head of Schutt helped Windies to reach three figures mark of 104 for 8 in 20 overs.

With the ball, almost all the bowlers bowled well, Schutt ended up as the highest wicket-taker of the match with 3 wickets.

Chasing the target, Australian openers too failed to provide a good start as Healy and Mooney got out in the quick session. Henry did the damage for Australians by picking two wickets in her first two overs. Mooney who opens in T20I was cleaned up by Henry with a ripper. Healy on another side after hitting a couple of fours tried to go for a huge one but she failed and was caught by Gajnabi. Australia was struggling at 19 for 2, looked like Windies had a chance. Sadly for them like her counterpart, the captain of Australia took the responsibility, Meg Lanning played a responsible inning of 54 not out, Perry and Gardener tried their best to help her in chasing. Finally, Australia chased the target in 18.5 overs.

With this win, Australia continued their winning streak in the tournament whereas Windies failing to give even a fight. Hope, they come back stronger in the next match.
