Meg Lanning misses Women’s CPL due to injury

The Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) posted a video on their social media with Meg Lanning wishing the TKR side the best of luck during their ongoing tour of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL). Meg Lanning missed out on the third edition of the WCPL due to an injury.

Lanning, the former Australian skipper and one of the most successful captains in international cricket, was signed by the Trinbago Knight Riders. She was recently part of The Hundred, representing the London Spirit, though she had a below-par season, scoring only a single fifty in 10 matches and totaling 170 runs. Nonetheless, the Australian batter would have been a valuable asset for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the WCPL but has been ruled out due to injury. Her absence will undoubtedly be felt by the Knight Riders, as they lose a crucial component of their batting lineup.

Meg Lanning was replaced by the Sri Lankan batter Harshita Samarawickrama ahead of the third season. The Australian veteran expressed her disappointment at missing out on the WCPL with TKR, which would have been her first stint in the tournament. Her absence seems to have affected the Knight Riders, who have currently lost two consecutive matches in the ongoing edition of the WCPL.

Meg Lanning, who led Australia to five World Cup titles as a skipper (four in ODIs and one in T20Is), announced her retirement last year. The Australian side will be competing in an ICC event for the first time in a long while without Meg Lanning later this year, with the 2024 T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
