Brief History of Belgium Women’s National Cricket Team
The Belgium women’s national cricket team represents Belgium in international women’s cricket and is governed by the Belgian Cricket Federation. The team competes in various international cricket competitions.
Historical highlights – Belgium Women’s National Cricket Team
In 2011, Belgium hosted a four-team tournament featuring Germany, Hungary, and the Netherlands. The following year, the team participated in the European Women’s Cricket Festival held in Utrecht, Netherlands.
In 2013, Belgium took part in a five-team tournament in Bologna, which included teams from Italy, Denmark, Estonia, and Gibraltar.
In April 2018, the International Cricket Council (ICC) granted Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20I) status to all its members. Enabling Belgium to play official WT20I matches with other ICC members after 1 July 2018.
Belgium made its WT20I debut against Austria at Seebarn Cricket Ground, Lower Austria, on 25 September 2021. Belgium chose to field first against Austria who put up an impressive total of 197/2 in their allotted 20 overs, supported by a century from Andrea-Mae Zepeda, who scored 101 runs off just 63 deliveries. In response, Belgium struggled to chase the target and could only manage 79/3 in their 20 overs, losing by 118 runs in their debut match.
