Smriti Mandhana becomes 2nd Highest Run Scorer in WT20Is, overtakes Harmanpreet Kaur

In the first semi-final of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024, India faced Bangladesh. Smriti Mandhana’s exceptional performance pushed her to the second position on the list of all-time leading run-scorers in Women’s T20 Internationals, surpassing her fellow teammate, Harmanpreet Kaur. Mandhana now has scored 3,433 runs in 134 innings, trailing only behind Suzie Bates, who has accumulated 4,348 runs in 159 innings.

In the Asia Cup Semi-Final, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. However, they struggled early, finding themselves at 25/3 in the powerplay, with Renuka Singh claiming all three wickets. Bangladesh’s innings concluded at 80/8, with captain Nigar Sultana Joty top-scoring with 32 off 51 balls. Renuka Singh and Radha Yadav each took three wickets, restricting Bangladesh to a modest total.

In reply, India’s openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana anchored the chase. Mandhana played a key role, scoring an unbeaten 55 off 39 balls, with 9 fours and 1 six. This inning not only secured India’s victory but also pushed Mandhana to the second spot on the list of top run-scorers in Women’s T20 Internationals. This win also secured India a place in the final of the Asia Cup 2024.

Mandhana made her T20I debut against Bangladesh in Vadodara in 2013. Since then, she has played 140 matches and amassed 3,433 runs in 134 innings, with a highest score of 87 against Ireland in 2023.
