The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a significant change in management for its women’s national team. Muhammad Wasim, a former Pakistan cricketer, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Pakistan women’s cricket team. This decision marks a new chapter for women’s cricket in Pakistan, as Wasim brings his extensive experience and cricket knowledge to the role. This is a big change for the women’s team, as the PCB hopes Wasim can help improve the team’s performance and increase their win rate.
The appointment comes at a crucial time as Pakistan aims to enhance its standing in international women’s cricket and develop a stronger, more competitive team.
The Pakistan women’s team has set up a four-day training camp at the Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre in Karachi ahead of the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024, which will commence on July 19, 2024.
A total of 28 talented Pakistan women cricketers have been invited to the camp by the Women’s National Selection Committee. All players will undergo specific training and fitness sessions and play T20 practice games among the squads at the Moin Khan Academy. The camp will be led by former Pakistan Test bowlers Abdur Rehman and Hanif Malik, who serve as spin bowling coach and assistant coach, respectively for the Pakistan women’s team. Based on these performances, management will assess and evaluate each player’s ability to play in conditions similar to those in Sri Lanka.
The ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup will be played in Dambulla, Sri Lanka, from July 19 to 28. Eight teams will participate in this tournament, with Pakistan placed in Group ‘A’ alongside India, Nepal, and UAE. Pakistan will begin their Asia Cup campaign against their biggest rivals, India, on the opening day of the tournament. They will then face Nepal on July 21, followed by their final group match against UAE on July 23.
