Surrey Women strengthened their position near the top of the Women’s T20 Blast 2026 table with a commanding six-wicket victory over Hampshire Women at The Oval, chasing down a target of 133 with 14 balls to spare. After an outstanding bowling display led by Ryana MacDonald-Gay and Bethan Miles kept Hampshire’s batting under control, Surrey produced a composed chase in which Laura Harris provided early momentum before Phoebe Franklin’s unbeaten 40 guided the hosts comfortably across the finish line. Despite Hampshire’s determined effort with the bat through Abi Norgrove, Surrey’s all-round performance proved too strong in a contest that showcased disciplined bowling and calculated batting.

Hampshire Women endured the worst possible start after being put in to bat. Surrey’s new-ball attack struck immediately as Ella McCaughan was bowled by Ryana MacDonald-Gay for just 1 from five deliveries, leaving Hampshire at 3/1 in the first over. The pressure intensified a few balls later when captain Georgia Adams managed only 1 from four balls before edging Bethan Miles to Alice Davidson-Richards. Hampshire suddenly found themselves struggling at 3/2 after 1.3 overs, with Surrey completely dominating the opening exchanges.
With early wickets falling, Abi Norgrove and Francesca Sweet attempted to rebuild, but their partnership yielded only one run before Sweet was caught by Kira Chathli off MacDonald-Gay for 1. Hampshire slipped further to 4/3 in the 2.1st over, and the collapse continued shortly afterwards when Nancy Harman also departed for 1, caught by Chathli off Davidson-Richards. At 5/4 after just 3.1 overs, Hampshire were in deep trouble with four wickets already back in the pavilion.
Norgrove remained calm despite the early collapse and found some support from Naomi Dattani. The pair added nine runs for the fifth wicket before Dattani was caught by Chathli off MacDonald-Gay after scoring 8 from nine balls, including a boundary. Hampshire were reduced to 14/5 in the 4.6th over, and Surrey looked well on course to dismiss the visitors cheaply.
The innings was revived through a superb counter-attacking partnership between Abi Norgrove and wicketkeeper Pippa Sproul. Together they produced a match-changing 67-run stand for the sixth wicket, gradually taking the attack to Surrey’s bowlers while rebuilding the innings with sensible shot selection. Sproul played positively throughout her stay, compiling 31 from 27 deliveries with five boundaries, before she was caught by Alice Davidson-Richards off Bethan Miles at 81/6 in the 14.1st over.
Norgrove continued to anchor the innings and was then joined by Amanda-Jade Wellington, who injected fresh momentum during the closing overs. The pair added another valuable 50 runs for the seventh wicket, pushing Hampshire towards a competitive total. Wellington played an aggressive knock of 29 from just 22 balls, striking four boundaries before Bethan Miles returned to dismiss her in the penultimate over with Hampshire on 131/7. Poppy Tulloch added 1 before being run out in the final over, while Norgrove carried her bat magnificently for an unbeaten 52 from 46 balls, hitting six boundaries at a strike rate of 113.04. Her composed innings rescued Hampshire from 14/5 and helped them finish on 132/8 in 20 overs, with seven extras contributing to the total.
Surrey’s bowling attack laid the foundation for victory with an exceptional performance. Ryana MacDonald-Gay starred with the new ball, claiming 3/13 in four overs, dismissing Ella McCaughan, Francesca Sweet and Naomi Dattani while maintaining relentless accuracy. Bethan Miles matched that impact by returning 3/22 in four overs, removing Georgia Adams, Pippa Sproul and Amanda-Jade Wellington to break Hampshire’s key partnerships. Alice Davidson-Richards contributed 1/25 in three overs, accounting for Nancy Harman, while Alice Monaghan (0/16), Danielle Gregory (0/25) and Kalea Moore (0/29) remained wicketless but kept the scoring under reasonable control during the middle and death overs.
Chasing 133, Surrey began confidently despite losing captain Bryony Smith early. Smith struck 12 from 11 balls, including two boundaries, and shared a 15-run opening partnership with Kira Chathli before becoming Bex Tyson’s only wicket. Chathli then joined forces with Laura Harris, and the duo added 49 runs for the second wicket, putting Surrey firmly in control of the chase. Chathli contributed 19 from 16 balls, hitting four boundaries before she was caught by Nancy Harman off Amanda-Jade Wellington, leaving Surrey at 64/2 in the 6.4th over.
Laura Harris continued her attacking approach, finding boundaries regularly as she dominated Hampshire’s bowling attack. Alongside Jemima Spence, Harris added another 29 runs for the third wicket. Spence managed only 1 from three deliveries before Georgia Adams removed her, making it 65/3 in the 7.1st over. Harris, however, kept Surrey comfortably ahead of the required rate and looked set to finish the chase herself.
The Australian batter produced an explosive 38 from just 19 deliveries, smashing seven boundaries at a remarkable strike rate of 200.00. She then shared another 28-run partnership with Phoebe Franklin, taking Surrey to 93/4 in the 10.2nd over, before Georgia Adams claimed her second wicket by trapping Harris leg-before. Although Hampshire managed to remove Surrey’s most dangerous batter, the required rate had already fallen significantly.
With the equation firmly in Surrey’s favour, Phoebe Franklin and Alice Monaghan ensured there would be no late drama. The unbeaten pair stitched together a decisive 43-run partnership for the fifth wicket, calmly rotating the strike before punishing loose deliveries to seal victory with 14 balls remaining. Franklin anchored the finish with an assured 40 not out from 36 balls, striking five boundaries and one six, while Monaghan provided excellent support with an unbeaten 15 from 21 deliveries, including one boundary. Their partnership guided Surrey to 136/4 in 17.4 overs, completing a comfortable chase.
Hampshire’s bowlers showed determination despite defending a modest total. Captain Georgia Adams was the most successful bowler with 2/21 from four overs, dismissing Jemima Spence and Laura Harris to briefly slow Surrey’s progress. Bex Tyson claimed 1/24 in four overs, removing Bryony Smith, while Amanda-Jade Wellington bowled an economical spell of 1/20 from four overs, dismissing Kira Chathli. Daisy Gibb (0/29), Naomi Dattani (0/9 from one over) and Poppy Tulloch (0/23 from 1.4 overs) were unable to make further breakthroughs as Surrey’s batters controlled the chase.
