India, with back-to-back wins, have secured the 3-match One-Day International (ODI) series against visitors South Africa, who, after coming close to leveling the series in the 2nd ODI, will want to avoid a clean sweep in the 3rd ODI on the 23rd of June 2024. Players to watch out:
Shafali Verma
The 20-year-old opening batter has accumulated 563 runs from 25 ODIs, at an average of 23.45, with a highest score of 71*. For a long now, Shafali has struggled for runs in ODIs, and following 7 single-digit scores, she managed a score of 20 in her most recent outing but failed to build on it. In the T20s ahead of this series, she consistently scored runs, so with form on her side, it’ll be hoped she converts her starts.
Deepti Sharma
The 26-year-old all-rounder has amassed 2019 runs from 78 innings in ODIs, at an average of 35.42, and scalped 104 wickets from 88 outings, at an economy rate of 4.16. Deepti wasn’t required with the bat in the 2nd ODI, and in the series opener, when needed the most, she played a good hand of 37. With the ball, effective and economical as ever, her returns read 2/10 and 2/56. She can be banked upon for another all-round effort.
Tazmin Brits
The 33-year-old opening batter has posted 720 runs from 27 ODIs, including a highest score of 118, at an average of 26.66. Since late 2023, Brits has notched up a couple of centuries, both against quality spin attacks. While she has failed to get going in this series, departing for 18 and 5, she’ll be backed to find her footing and build another mature innings.
Nonkululeko Mlaba
The 23-year-old left-arm off-spinner has picked up 20 wickets from 24 ODI innings, including a best of 3/39, maintaining an economy rate of 4.67. Mlaba has had a notable series so far, producing bowling figures of 1/38 and 2/51, and with the wicket favorable for spinners, she can be banked upon for breakthroughs, continuing the momentum.
Pitch:
The Chinnaswamy Stadium dishes a good batting deck with an average score in the 240s. However, the wicket poses a challenge for batters due to its lively nature, especially early on against pacers, while spinners remain in the game throughout.
Weather:
With rain on the radar, expect multiple delays and interruptions if the skies don’t clear out. The temperature is expected to hover around 25°C, with moderate winds and humidity at 76%.
Fantasy playing XI:
Richa Ghosh, Laura Wolvaardt, Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, Marizanne Kapp, Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, Nadine De Klerk, Radha Yadav, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Asha Sobhana
