The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently announced the fixtures on 5th May 2024 for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, hosted by Bangladesh.

The Sri Lankan women’s team led by skipper Chamari Athapaththu stayed unbeaten throughout the tournament, topping the table with four victories from four games. The Sri Lankan bowlers managed to hold their nerve to survive a spirited effort from the United Arab Emirates skipper Esha Oza to book their spot in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, later this year courtesy of a 15-run victory against the UAE in the 2nd semi-final.

The Sri Lankan women’s team led by skipper Chamari Athapaththu clinched a comprehensive 68-run victory against Scotland in the final. They will join the likes of India, New Zealand, Australia, and Pakistan in Group A. The Scotland women’s team led by skipper Kathryn Bryce finished 2nd on the points table with six points from four games, including three victories. Their solitary defeat came on 27th April 2024 against Sri Lanka, when they were thrashed by 10 wickets. Scotland stunned Ireland in the 1st semi-final by eight wickets and 22 balls to spare to book a spot for their maiden appearance in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, this year.

However, they ended up on the receiving end of the Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu’s 2nd T20I century. Scotland eventually failed to chase down the total of 170, falling short of the target by 68 runs. As a result of their defeat, they will join the likes of England, South Africa, West Indies, and the hosts, Bangladesh in Group B.
