Three games into the season and the Giants continue to search for their first win, while Meg Lanning-led Capitals’ campaign is back on track, following a last-ball defeat in the curtain raiser.

Squads:

Gujarat Giants – Beth Mooney* (C), Phoebe Litchfield*, Lea Tahuhu*, Laura Wolvaardt*, Tanuja Kanwar, Mannat Kashyap, Trisha Poojitha, Meghna Singh, Veda Krishnamurthy, Kathryn Bryce*, Sayali Satghare, Dayalan Hemalatha, Shabnam Shakil, Tarannum Pathan, Priya Mishra, Harleen Deol, Ashleigh Gardner*, Sneh Rana

Players to watch out:

Laura Wolvaardt

The 24-year-old top-order batter, striking at 140.19, accumulated 143 runs, including the highest of 68, from 4 WPL appearances last edition. Laura had a poor patch leading up to the series with a string of single-digit scores; however, in her first WPL outing this season, she scored a solid 28. It’ll be hoped that the seasoned campaigner capitalizes on this start, making the most of this return to form.

Mannat Kashyap

The 20-year-old left-arm spinner since her U-19 World Cup success has continued to excel, and this domestic T20 season, bagged 9 wickets, maintaining an economy rate of 4.29, from 8 games. However, come the ’24 WPL, she debuted with the Gujarat Giants but didn’t have an ideal start, conceding 14 runs off her only over. She’ll be backed to find her footing and deliver the goods.

Jess Jonassen

The 31-year-old all-rounder in the ’23 WPL managed only 79 runs from 6 innings, while also scalping 9 wickets from 9 outings. Following being dropped from the national sides, Jess was left out of Bangladesh’s touring contingent, and a couple of days later, in her first WPL outing of this season, smashed a 36* and returned figures of 3/21. She can be relied upon for all-round efforts.

Radha Yadav

The 23-year-old left-arm spinner claimed only 4 wickets from 9 WPL outings last summer, while also chipped in with the bat, scoring 38 runs from 3 innings. In the lead-up to the ’24 WPL, Radha was in outstanding form with both bat and ball and continuing on her form, has recorded figures of 0/18 (2), 4/20 (4), and 0/19 (2). The team will count on her to step up with both bat and ball.

Pitch:

The center wicket at Chinnaswamy Stadium is favorable for batting, as evident from high-scoring matches held at the venue. While the smaller ground dimensions primarily benefit the batters, bowlers, especially pacers, can exploit the conditions to their advantage.

Weather:

It will be a pleasant day for cricket at Chinnaswamy Stadium with no expected rain interruptions and partly cloudy skies. The temperature is forecasted to hover around 29°C, with light winds and a humidity level of 41%.
