Bangladeshi opener Fargana Hoque scored a sublime century, which was also the first by a Bangladeshi player in WODI. Fargana Hoque 107 off 160 ensured Bangladesh reach a respectable score of 225. In the second innings, India lost 2 early wickets, courtesy of some disciplined bowling by the bowlers.

Smriti Mandhana and Harleen Deol managed to steady the ship knitting together a partnership of 107 runs for the 3rd wicket. India were almost cruising towards victory, but they lost 2 wickets in one over, both being run-outs. The momentum shifted towards Bangladesh as India lost more wickets. Meghna Singh was the last one to be dismissed when India required just 1 run. The match eventually resulted in a tie.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was adjudged LBW, which she believed wasn’t the right decision. In anger, she hit the stumps with her bat. Harmanpreet was really not happy with the decision. There were a few more decisions in the game by umpires that looked a bit dodgy like Amanjot Kaur’s dismissal as well as Harmanpreet Kaur’s dismissal.

Amanjot Kaur was also unhappy about the decision the umpire gave for her dismissal, the game completely changed at this point. India lost 2 quick wickets in the form of in-form batters Harleen Deol and Deepti Sharma courtesy of both being run-outs.

In the post-match presentation, Harmanpreet said “Well, I think a lot of learning from this game. Even apart from cricket, the type of umpiring was happening there, we were very surprised. The next time whenever we are coming to Bangladesh we’ll make sure we have to deal with this type of umpiring and accordingly, we have to prepare ourselves.”

She further added “In between we leaked few runs. But when we were batting, we controlled the game very well. But as I mentioned earlier, some pathetic umpiring was done, and really disappointed about some decisions given by the umpires.”

Harmanpreet’s anger was easily seen in the presentation ceremony as she must have felt due to some dodgy decisions India failed to win the series. Captain also thanked The High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh for coming to watch the match. She also felt that the presenter should have invited him for the post-match presentation.

She said “Lastly, our high commission from India is also there. I hope you could have invited him here. But that’s also fine.”

Playing a super over was not an option as the match had gone way over the scheduled time due to a delay because of the rains. The trophy was shared by both teams, as the series ended with a scoreline of 1-1.
