Troy Cooley set to become the New Bowling Coach for Indian Women’s team

In welcome news ahead of the tri-series and the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa, the BCCI has hired Troy Cooley as the bowling coach for the Indian women’s cricket team. He will guide the team for the tri-series that is slated to begin on January 19th and for the World Cup begins on 10th February.

Troy Cooley is a wonderful addition to the Indian team as he is extremely experienced having served as the fast bowling coach at the premier BCCI centre, National Cricket Academy (NCA) at Bengaluru since 2021 and was recently with victorious India A team that toured Bangladesh. He was hired by the NCA to groom and nurture the next set of fast bowlers in the Indian ecosystem and his presence will strengthen the Indian women’s team as well.

He has the reputation of guiding the glorious England team during their iconic 2005 Ashes campaign where the lethal pacers, Flintoff, Hoggard, Jones and Harmison under his tutelage dominated the proceedings and challenged the Australian batters throughout. He was then brought in by Cricket Australia where he worked for an entire season and then was a part of the Centre of Excellence in Brisbane. Considering his equation with Kanitkar who has worked with him in NCA and is already the Batting Coach for Team India, we can expect the two to gel well and bring desirable results for India. “The decision to ask Cooley to take up the bowling coach role with the Indian women’s cricket team was taken by (former India batting great) NCA chairman VVS Laxman. A formal announcement in this regard will be made soon” is what was reported by the Times of India.

India did not have the best series with the ball versus Australia as they conceded 170+ in all five of the games and dearly missed the guidance and support of a bowling coach as quipped by Harmapreet Kaur as well in one of the post-match conferences. The inclusion of Troy Cooley will certainly augur well for India’s prospects.
