Amy Satterthwaite appointed as Assistant Coach for Adelaide Strikers

The upcoming 8th edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) is less than a month away and in the leadup to the edition, there’s confirmation on Amy Satterthwaite joining Adelaide Strikers in a coaching capacity as she begins a new stint having signed an assistant coach contract.

The 35-year-old has been an influential player in women’s cricket and especially on home soil back in New Zealand. Amy Satterthwaite, drew curtains on her illustrious international career of 15 years early this year and finished as New Zealand’s most capped women’s ODI player with 145 matches and scored 4639 runs and picked up 50 wickets in the 50-over format. The shortest, T20I format sees her with an experience of 111 international matches wherein she scored 1784 runs and bagged 26 wickets.

An unforgettable highlight from Amy Satterthwaite’s career came during the 2016-17 summer, wherein she struck 4 consecutive ODI centuries and happens to be the only female cricketer to have done so. For the same in 2017, the International Cricket Council (ICC) awarded her the Player of the Year award.

In the Bash, Amy Satterthwaite played for the Hobart Hurricanes and then went on to captain the Melbourne Renegades as well. In the tournament alone, she’s got to almost 1,500 runs and claimed 44 wickets which includes a hat-trick she picked for the Hobart Hurricanes in the 2nd edition of the tournament. She also was voted as the Player of the Tournament in the 03 edition of the tournament which was her first with the Renegades.

Her passion for coaching got her to work as a mentor with Canterbury, New Zealand and now with the Strikers. Amy Satterthwaite on her signing said, “The WBBL is such a quality competition and one that I have been fortunate to play in over the years. I absolutely loved my time on field playing with and against some of the best in the world, and I know the standard of the local talent is extremely high.”

“I have always had a great respect for the Adelaide Strikers; they have always been a competitive franchise and the squad looks strong again this season after a brilliant performance last year. Hopefully, I can bring a fresh perspective to the coaching group and lean on my experience to help the team go that next step this summer.”

Luke Williams, the head coach of Adelaide Strikers said, “Amy has achieved so much throughout her playing career and she brings natural leadership qualities that will be extremely valuable to our team. She has a great cricket mind, knows this competition better than most and will really be able to connect with our players both on and off the field. We can’t wait to welcome her to Adelaide.”

The 8th edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (W-BBL) gets underway on the 13th of October and the Adelaide Strikers get their campaign up and running on the 15th of October when they contest against Sydney Sixers at Mackay.
