The Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) will be witnessing its 8th edition get underway this summer. Signings for the upcoming edition of the Bash are in process and a couple of big recent signings have been that of Ellyse Perry who retains her spot with Sydney Sixers and Issy Wong who’ll be moving in Purple to the Hobart Hurricanes.
Captain and superstar all-rounder, Ellyse Perry for quite a bit now has been struggling with both, bat and ball in the shortest, T20I format but just in time a blistering 58(31) at the Hundred has surely played a role in her entering into her 8th-year stint with the Sixers. On her signing with the side, this is what Ellyse Perry had to say, “It’s so lovely to be able to continue at the Sixers for another WBBL season. The club has been such a significant part of my career, and I am especially proud of what the team has been able to achieve, both on and off the field, over the last seven years, especially in terms of engaging and inspiring lots of young girls and boys to be involved in cricket. I’m really looking forward to the challenge this season presents, and also the opportunity to play at home again.”
Sydney Sixes for the first time in the history of the tournament will be with a new coach following Ben Sawyer taking up the role as head coach of New Zealand, the Sixers have roped in former English great, Charlotte Edwards. She on the signing of Ellyse Perry said, “I am elated that Ellyse has re-signed with the Sixers and am very excited about working closely with her to return the club to the finals in WBBL 08. Ellyse has been one of the world’s best players for a long, long time and is part of the fabric of the Sydney Sixers. I have no doubt she will continue to lead the team by example as we look to play an attacking, exciting brand of cricket that our fans can be proud of.”
Sydney Sixers squad (so far) :

Another big signing has been that of Issy Wong. She rose to deliver at the Bash in the green playing for Sydney Thunder in her previous season. With her pace and ability to swing the cherry, she created an instant impact and earned a big name for herself. In her debut season, Wong finished with 9 wickets from her 13 games at an economy of 7.28. Issy Wong the batter also created an impact with a hard-to-forget inning, the incredible 17-ball-43 that’d come against Adelaide Strikers. Wong for the upcoming edition will be changing gears to Purple as she’s got a home with the Hobart Hurricanes.
Issy Wong on her signing with the Hobart Hurricanes said, “I can’t wait to come back to Australia for the WBBL. To be honest, it’s been a bit of a whirlwind since I got the call up to join the Thunder last year, and I can’t be more thankful for how that has helped me and my career. I had a great time at the Thunder last season, but I’m looking forward to joining the Hurricanes this year. We had a really great match against them at the end of last season, and they’ve got some more really experienced players who have come on board since then, so I can’t wait to meet everyone and get stuck into learning as much as I can.”
