Suzie Bates becomes the 1st New Zealand Woman to score 5000 ODI Runs

Suzie Bates recorded a huge milestone on Saturday against Pakistan as the Kiwi batter became the 4th international cricketer to score 5000 ODI runs. The veteran batter reached the milestone after scoring a fabulous 126 against Pakistan at Christchurch.

Bates, who’s been an integral part of the White Ferns since 2006 has scored 5045 runs in 142 matches. She has scored a whopping 1116 runs against Australia in 32 matches with 3 centuries and 6 fifties. She has excellent records against the top teams scoring more than 400 runs against each of them. She has scored 844 runs in 35 matches against England with one century and 3 fifties.

Bates has been one of the most consistent performers for the Kiwis as she has scored 300+ runs in almost every calendar year. She has a great home and away record as well. She has scored 2294 runs at home with 5 centuries and 16 fifties and 2751 runs away with 7 centuries and 12 fifties.

Bates also captained her side for 76 matches between 2011 to 2018 in which she lead the side from the front scoring 3214 runs at an excellent average of 51.83.

With a few more years left in her career, 34-year-old Bates will go down as the Greatest Woman’s Cricketer in New Zealand cricket history and as one of the best openers of World Cricket. Along with being the first Kiwi batter to score 5000 ODI runs, Bates also has won the ICC ODI Cricketer of Year Award in 2013 and 2016 as she scored 521 runs in 10 and 632 runs in 14 matches respectively.

As New Zealand finishes their horrible World Cup campaign against Pakistan, Bates and the team will now focus on the 2023 T20 World Cup that is scheduled to happen in February 2023 in South Africa. Bates who also won the ICC T20 Cricketer of the Year Award in 2016 will now make sure to showcase her dominance in the T20 format in the coming year.
