On June 15, the organizers of the Commonwealth Games announced that women’s T20 cricket will be included as a sport for its 2022 Birmingham edition. It’ll take place from July 29 to August 7 at Edgbaston. It is now exactly 1 year after that a women’s cricket match will be played in commonwealth games.
As the one-year countdown began, chief executive Ian Reid said it would “give us all something to look forward to”. With the 2020 Olympics underway, the Commonwealth committee decided to hold a day filled with sports activities at the Birmingham city center.
Emphasizing the contribution beyond Birmingham, Mr. Reid said,”The NEC will be a key hub, staging world-class badminton, boxing, netball, table tennis, para table tennis, weightlifting, and para powerlifting, and the site is also one of the Games’ three campus villages, hosting athletes from across the Commonwealth throughout next summer’s event.
“After a challenging 18 months for everyone, we are sure that the Games and the six-month culture programme, which will accompany it, will give us all something to look forward to.”
He also encouraged the local residents to volunteer for this event.
