This July, it will be for the first time that Germany and France will play each other in an official WT20I. Germany will host France for a five-match T20I series that will take place between July 8 and July 10.
On July 8 and July 10, two games will be played on each day. This series will serve as a good preparation for both sides for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier, scheduled to be held towards the end of August. The Deutscher Cricket Bund (DCB) announced that the matches would be hosted at the new national performance centre in Krefeld.
It will be an interesting contest between the two European sides as both of them will be looking to gain the most out of it with all eyes on the Europe Qualifier for the Women’s World T20. The European qualifier, which also features Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands and Turkey, will be France Women’s first appearance at an ICC event. Germany is ranked 25th, while France is ranked 30th. Both these teams will look to improve their rankings ahead of the series.
Germany, who lost to Scotland and Netherlands in the 2019 European Women’s World T20 Qualifier will look to redeem themselves. The German eves will be determined to put up a better performance this time around in order to make it to the World T20.
There is seldom any doubt that cricket is garnering tremendous popularity in Europe and the fans of European cricket will be hoping that the Germany-France series receives similar coverage to Germany’s series against Austria in August 2020. The European Cricket Network (ECN) broadcast all the matches of that series live. Germany whitewashed Austria 5-0. On the back of Germany’s previous success and the fact that the live broadcast of the Germany-Austria series received encouraging viewing numbers, it is possible that the ECN will cover the Germany-France series in July.
