While the virus has led to over a million deaths, the ray of hope is in the fact that around 97% of the infected have made a full recovery. One of those who recovered is 21-year old English sensation, Sarah Glenn, who confirmed she had contracted the virus earlier, after getting an antibody test recently. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Glenn spoke about her battle with the deadly virus.

“I had to get out of the house one day and we needed a food shop so I offered. I came across this bloke who bumped into me and laughed. I think he was drunk. Me and the lady at the till were in shock. I felt really uncomfortable. It was my first and only shopping experience in lockdown and it was awful. He bumped into me again, so I walked out,” said Glenn.

The women’s player of the year, as declared by Professional Cricketers’ Association, went on to add, “I came home so angry. I said to my parents, ‘If I get ill next week I’m going to be fuming’. And there I was next week in bed. It was not great.”

Glenn is currently undergoing quarantine at a hotel in Adelaide and will make a move to Sydney, once the two-week quarantine period is over. She will join her side, Perth Scorchers, and will be looking to make a significant impact in her debut season of Women’s Big Bash League. If past performances are anything to go by, Glenn will be one to watch out for in season six of WBBL.

As days have gone by, people around the world have become a bit lax in their approach to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sarah Glenn warned such people, saying, “It really opened my eyes and I start to get angry when young people say, ‘oh we will be fine’. No. I’m a fit young athlete and I was a bit worried. I had a couple of bad nights so I get annoyed by that. I did not realize how much it affected your lungs and it took me a long time to get over it.”

The leg-spinner has had a fairytale run in international cricket, ever since her debut just 10 months back. In her brief career, she played an important role in England’s run to the semis of the T20 WC earlier this year and has solidified her place in the world-class English bowling line-up. Glenn has become the perfect partner-in-crime for World No. 1, Sophie Ecclestone, and the duo is extremely tough to negotiate with in the middle overs – the most crucial phase in a T20I match.

In the recently concluded West Indies’ tour of England, Glenn picked up 7 wickets and made some handy contributions with the bat, to help the English complete a 5-0 whitewash. The women’s series saw the ECB conduct over 1,500 tests across the bio-secure bubble’s in Manchester, Southampton and Derby.
