Austria Women produced a commanding performance against Bulgaria Women in the fourth match of the ECA Women’s European Cup 2026 at Ilfov County on October 16, 2026, securing a comprehensive 10-wicket victory with 43 balls remaining.

A disciplined bowling display restricted Bulgaria to a modest total before captain Priya Sabu led the chase with an unbeaten 28, supported by Andrea-Mae Zepeda, as Austria completed the target in just 4.5 overs. The emphatic win highlighted Austria Women’s dominance in the contest, with their bowlers sharing the wickets and their top order making light work of the chase.
Bulgaria Women struggled to establish momentum after being put under pressure by Austria’s bowling attack. Martina Abadjieva and Vili Nikolova opened the innings, but the partnership did not develop as hoped. Nikolova managed just one run off five deliveries before being dismissed by Mallika Pathirannehelage in the second over, leaving Bulgaria with an early setback.
Stanislava Sarandeva arrived at the crease but could not stay for long either, scoring two off three balls before Pathirannehelage struck again in the second over. Bulgaria’s difficulties continued when Abadjieva was dismissed for a 12-ball duck by Komati Reddy, leaving the side reeling at 4/3 after 3.4 overs. Captain Detelina Ruynekova attempted to steady the innings alongside Simona Yordanova, but Austria continued to find breakthroughs.
Yordanova contributed six runs from 10 deliveries, including a boundary, before she fell to Pathirannehelage, who completed an impressive three-wicket spell. Ruynekova was run out for a duck off 13 balls, with Pathirannehelage involved in the dismissal, leaving Bulgaria at 14/5 after 7.6 overs. The early collapse meant the Bulgarian batters had little opportunity to build meaningful partnerships, while Austria maintained control through accurate bowling and sharp fielding.
Gabriela Ilarionova and Katrin Srandeva then tried to add some stability to the innings. Ilarionova scored four runs from 10 deliveries before being caught by Reddy off Sheetal Bhardwaj at 28/6 in the 9.3rd over. Srandeva provided one of the few bright moments for Bulgaria, remaining unbeaten on 12 from eight balls, including two fours, at a strike rate of 150.00.
However, wickets continued to fall at the other end. Katrin Eftimova scored three from eight balls before Bhardwaj dismissed her, while Nevena Tropolova was caught by wicketkeeper Anisha Nookala off Bhardwaj for a duck from two deliveries. Bulgaria slipped to 38/8 in the 11.3rd over, with Danaya Ilieva unbeaten on zero from three balls alongside Srandeva.
Bulgaria Women eventually finished on 39/8 in 12 overs, recording a run rate of 3.25. Extras contributed 11 runs, including one bye, one leg-bye, two no-balls and seven wides. Pathirannehelage was the standout bowler for Austria Women, returning figures of three wickets for seven runs in three overs, including one maiden. Reddy claimed one wicket for just three runs in her three overs, also bowling a maiden.
Bhardwaj delivered an equally important spell, taking three wickets for 12 runs in two overs, while Andrea-Mae Zepeda conceded two runs in one over and Priya Sabu gave away one run in her over without taking a wicket. Ashi Chopra conceded 12 runs in two overs, taking no wickets, while Sheetal Bhardwaj’s three-wicket haul helped finish off Bulgaria’s lower order. Pathirannehelage’s involvement in the run-out further underlined her influence on the innings.
Chasing a target of 40, Austria Women made their intentions clear from the beginning. Captain Priya Sabu and Andrea-Mae Zepeda opened the innings with confidence, finding gaps and capitalising on the loose deliveries. Sabu played the leading role, scoring an unbeaten 28 off just 22 balls, including three fours, at a strike rate of 127.27. Zepeda complemented her captain perfectly, finishing unbeaten on seven from seven deliveries.
The pair put together an unbroken opening partnership of 37 runs in 4.5 overs, with two wides accounting for the remaining runs required to reach the target. Bulgaria’s bowlers were unable to make an impact during the short chase. Stanislava Sarandeva conceded seven runs in one over, while Gabriela Ilarionova gave away 16 runs in 1.5 overs. Katrin Srandeva bowled one over for four runs, and Deya Stefanova conceded 10 runs in her over. None of the four bowlers managed to claim a wicket as Austria’s openers controlled the chase from start to finish.
Austria Women reached 37/0 in 4.5 overs, with the two wides taking their total to 39 and completing the chase without losing a wicket. The victory was sealed with 43 balls remaining, giving Austria a convincing 10-wicket win in the ECA Women’s European Cup 2026. Pathirannehelage and Bhardwaj’s three-wicket hauls laid the foundation for the triumph, while Sabu’s unbeaten innings ensured a smooth finish. For Bulgaria Women, Srandeva’s quick 12 was a rare positive in a difficult batting display.
