In the 10th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, UP Warriorz defeated Mumbai Indians by 22 runs in a high scoring encounter at Dr DY Patil Stadium, producing a dominant batting display followed by disciplined bowling under pressure.

Mumbai Indians Women won the toss and elected to field first, a decision that saw them restrict UP Warriorz at 187/8 in 20 overs. UPW innings was built around a commanding partnership between Meg Lanning and Phoebe Litchfield, which laid the foundation for one of the strongest totals of the season. Despite a spirited bowling effort from Mumbai, the target proved too steep in the end.
After losing Kiran Navgire early, UP Warriorz steadied themselves through captain Meg Lanning, who played a classy knock under pressure. Lanning (70) was well supported by Phoebe Litchfield (61), who counterattacked with confidence. Late cameos from Harleen Deol and Chloe Tryon ensured UP crossed the 180-run mark. For Mumbai, Amelia Kerr was the standout bowler, finishing with three wickets, while Nat Sciver-Brunt chipped in with two.
In reply, Mumbai Indians required 188 and began steadily but lost wickets at crucial moments. While several batters got starts, none were able to dominate the UP-bowling attack early. The chase was revived by a powerful partnership between Amelia Kerr and Amanjot Kaur, who brought Mumbai back into the contest with aggressive stroke play. However, tight death bowling and a crucial maiden over from Sophie Ecclestone swung momentum firmly back in UP’s favour, restricting Mumbai to 165/6 in 20 overs.

UP Warriorz captain Meg Lanning led from the front with a superb innings of 70 off 45 balls, including 11 fours and 2 sixes. After an early wicket, Lanning anchored the innings beautifully, rotating the strike and punishing loose deliveries. Her calm presence allowed other batters to play freely around her, and her knock proved decisive in setting up a challenging total.
Phoebe Litchfield – 61 (37)
Phoebe Litchfield continued her fine form with a fluent 61 off 37 balls. She took on the Mumbai bowlers fearlessly, particularly in the middle overs, striking seven fours and three sixes. Her aggressive approach ensured the run rate stayed high and put immense pressure on the opposition bowlers.
Amelia Kerr – 49* (28) & 3/28 (4)
Amelia Kerr delivered an outstanding all-round performance for Mumbai Indians. With the ball, she was the most effective bowler, picking up three important wickets and keeping UP in check. Later, she nearly pulled off an improbable chase with an unbeaten 49 off 28 balls, showcasing power and composure. Despite her heroics, due to lack of runs from top order she couldn’t help Mumbai cross the finish line, but she fought till the end.
Amanjot Kaur – 41 (24) & 1/38 (3)
Amanjot Kaur delivered an impactful all-round performance. With the ball she picked up the key wicket of Phoebe Litchfield. With the bat, Amanjot was outstanding in the chase, scoring a rapid 41 off just 24 balls. Her knock included four fours and three sixes and was played with fearless intent at a crucial stage of the innings. Batting alongside Amelia Kerr, she injected momentum back into the chase and briefly swung the match in Mumbai’s favour, making her one of the standout performers of the contest.
UP Warriorz’s all-round effort earned them a deserved victory, while Mumbai Indians will take positives from their late fightback as they look ahead to their next fixture.
