In a crucial game determining the Capitals’ qualification, Indian opener Shafali Verma and Australian all-rounder Jess Jonassen forged a record-breaking 146-run partnership for the 2nd wicket, the highest ever in WPL run chases.

The match began with DC opting to bowl first, restricting RCB to 147 in 20 overs. Ellyse Perry continued her fine form with an important knock of 60* off 47 balls, while debutant Charani impressed with 2 wickets at an economy rate of 7. The Capitals’ chase started on a poor note as skipper Meg Lanning departed after scoring just 2. However, the incredible partnership between Verma, who smashed 80* at a strike rate of 186, and Jonassen, who scored 61* at a strike rate of 160, led DC to victory in just 15.3 overs.

Alyssa Healy and Devika Vaidya vs RCB, 2023

This match between UP Warriorz and RCB featured the second-highest partnership runs in WPL chases, with Alyssa Healy and Devika Vaidya putting together 139 runs.

The Warriorz bowlers restricted RCB to 138 in 19.3 overs, thanks to outstanding performances by Sophie Ecclestone, who took 4 wickets for 13 runs in 3.3 overs, and Deepti Sharma, who bagged 3 wickets for 26 runs in her 4 overs. The match between Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz in Bengaluru saw the third-highest partnership run while chasing in WPL history, with Hayley Matthews and Nat Sciver-Brunt putting together 133 runs.

MI restricted the Warriorz to 142-9, with Sciver-Brunt leading the bowling effort with figures of 3/18. In the chase, MI suffered an early setback, losing Yastika Bhatia with just 6 runs on the board. However, Matthews (59 off 50 balls) and Sciver-Brunt (75* off 44 balls) combined to stabilize the innings and break records. MI chased down the target within 17 overs, securing a convincing victory.

Sophie Devine and Smriti Mandhana vs GG, 2023

In this high-scoring encounter, GG posted 188/4 in their 20 overs, led by Laura Wolvaardt’s fluent 68 off 42 balls. In response, RCB’s chase was dominated by Sophie Devine’s sensational knock of 99 off just 36 balls, featuring nine fours and eight sixes. UP Warriorz struggled against DC’s disciplined bowling attack, managing just 119/9 in their 20 overs. Chasing a low target of 120, DC’s openers Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning delivered a commanding performance. The duo forged an unbeaten 119-run opening partnership, sealing the match for DC. Verma scored an aggressive 64 not out off 43 balls, while Lanning contributed an unbeaten 51 off 43 balls, ensuring DC secured a comprehensive nine-wicket win in just 14.3 overs.
