Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Delhi’s bowling unit put up a stellar performance, restricting Mumbai to a modest total of 123/9. The spin duo of Jess Jonassen and Minnu Mani wreaked havoc, each claiming three wickets to dismantle Mumbai’s batting lineup. Mumbai struggled to build partnerships, with Hayley Matthews and captain Harmanpreet Kaur top-scoring with 22 runs each.

Chasing 124, Delhi got off to a blistering start with an 85-run opening stand between Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma. The latter’s dismissal in the 10th over, courtesy of Amanjot Kaur, was the only hiccup in an otherwise smooth chase. Lanning remained unbeaten as Delhi Capitals cruised to victory in the 15th over, comfortably reaching 124.

Highlights from the match –

Jess Jonassen – 3/25 (4)

Jess Jonassen was the main menace for Mumbai Indians, delivering a stellar spell of 3/25 in four overs. She set the tone by trapping Harmanpreet Kaur lbw with a sharp arm-ball that skidded in, pinning the Mumbai skipper right in front of the stumps. Her next victim was Nat Sciver-Brunt, who misjudged the flight and offered a simple return catch, handing Delhi a massive breakthrough. Jonassen capped off her spell with a beauty to Kamalini Gunalan, deceiving her with flight and dip before rattling the off stump.

Minnu Mani – 3/17 (3)

Minnu Mani played a crucial role in Delhi’s bowling attack, finishing with an impressive 3/17 in just three overs. She struck first by dismissing Sajana Sajeevan, who mistimed a lofted shot to extra cover, where Meg Lanning made no mistake. Moments later, she removed Amelia Kerr with a short delivery that stuck in the pitch, forcing a top-edge that Annabel Sutherland grabbed with a stunning forward dive. Minnu completed her spell by sending Sanskriti Gupta back, tempting her into a big swing that only found Jemimah Rodrigues at deep mid-wicket.

Meg Lanning – 60*(49)

Meg Lanning played a captain’s knock, remaining unbeaten on 60 off 49 balls with nine fours, guiding Delhi Capitals to a comfortable win. She started strong with back-to-back boundaries off Shabnim Ismail in the first over and kept the momentum going with consistent strokes throughout. She reached her fifty with a signature cut past short third and fittingly finished the chase, ensuring Delhi Capitals’ emphatic victory.

Shafali Verma – 43(28)

Shafali Verma provided Delhi Capitals with a blazing start, scoring 43 off 28 balls with four fours and three sixes. She took on Nat Sciver-Brunt in the fourth over, smashing back-to-back boundaries and a massive six over deep square leg. She eventually fell in the 10th over, caught at deep mid-wicket off Amanjot Kaur, but by then, Delhi was already in a commanding position.

Amanjot Kaur – 17*(10) & 1/12(2)

Amanjot Kaur was one of the few positives for Mumbai Indians, contributing with both bat and ball. She scored an unbeaten 17 off 10 balls, striking two clever boundaries in the final overs to push Mumbai past 120. With the ball, she was economical, finishing with 1/12 in two overs, including the crucial wicket of Shafali Verma, breaking Delhi Capitals’ opening stand. However, her efforts weren’t enough to prevent Mumbai’s heavy defeat.
