As the fans are counting days for Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, the teams are working hard to be on their front foot in the highly competitive season. Mumbai Indians, the inaugural champions are set to begin their campaign with high expectations, having a well-balanced squad led by Harmanpreet Kaur.

They have been honing their skills in rigorous training sessions ahead of their first match against Delhi Capitals on 15th February at the Baroda Cricket Association Stadium in Vadodara. The Mumbai Indians coaches, Charlotte Edwards, Jhulan Goswami, Nicole Bolton and Devika Palshikar have been closely monitoring the team’s progress.
During a recent practice session, Indian all-rounder Sajana Sajeevan pulled off a breathtaking catch that left everyone, including the skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, in awe.
The moment, captured in a video posted by Mumbai Indians on their social media handles, shows Sajana diving full stretch to grab a sharp chance, displaying exceptional athleticism at the age of 30.
The reaction from Harmanpreet and the teammates was priceless. The post was titled ‘Catch aisa, ki loop pe dekhna banta hai’. (A catch so good, it deserves to be watched on loop!). This electrifying display of fielding underlined Mumbai Indians’ commitment to excellence, eyeing their second title.
In WPL 2024, over nine matches, Sajana scored 87 runs in six innings, remaining not out in three, which resulted in an average of 29.00. Her highest score was 30, and she maintained an impressive strike rate of 158.18. With the ball, Sajana bowled 12 deliveries across two innings, conceding 23 runs and taking two wickets.
A highlight of her season was in the opening match against the Delhi Capitals, where Mumbai Indians needed five runs off the last ball. With nerves of steel, debutant Sajana smashed a six, securing a thrilling victory and proving her ability to remain calm under pressure situations.
In the 2025 WPL auction, Mumbai Indians focused on strengthening their squad with a balanced mix of experienced international players and promising domestic talents.
They acquired four new players, Nadine de Klerk, G Kamalini, Sanskriti Gupta, and Akshita Maheshwari while retaining a strong core. With players like Harmanpreet Kaur, Melie Kerr, Hayley Matthews, and Nat Sciver-Brunt leading the charge, Mumbai Indians remain a formidable force aiming for another title.
