16-year-old G Kamalini has been secured for a whopping 1.6 Crore by Mumbai Indians as she becomes the first player in the uncapped set to land in a gig at the 2025 WPL auction. The wicket-keeper batter from Tamil Nadu was Mumbai Indians’ second buy in the WPL auction.
A highly competitive bidding war ignited a battle between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals for G Kamalini. Eventually, Mumbai Indians sealed the deal in their favor after winning the bidding war to add Kamalini to their squad ahead of the third edition of WPL.
The Tamil Nadu batter had a remarkable campaign in the U19 Women’s T20 Trophy in October 2024, amassing 311 runs in eight matches, including a fifty and a hundred, playing a vital role in guiding Tamil Nadu to the title victory. She was Tamil Nadu’s leading run scorer and second-leading run scorer, and later on, scored 89 runs in four matches in the U19 Women’s Challenger Trophy.
Most recently, Kamalini was part of the India B U19 squad, also serving as the vice-captain for the same Triangular series, involving India A U19 and South Africa U-19. She carried her impressive form into the tournament as well, amassing 270 runs from 5 outings.
Following her consistent performances at the domestic level, she earned a place in India’s U19 squad for the inaugural edition of the U19 Women’s Asia Cup. The left-handed batter scored an unbeaten 44 off 29 balls in the opening game against Pakistan in a winning cause.
