Former Indian captain and Mentor of the Gujarat Giants Mithali Raj has parted ways after two seasons into the stint, while bowling coach Nooshin Al Khadeer has opted against an extension.
In a significant development, Gujarat Giants and Mithali Raj have officially parted after a two-year period in which Mithali Raj served the role of mentor and advisor.
The Gujarat Giants endured a challenging time after finishing bottom of the table in both seasons of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) with the seasons which were affected by multiple injuries and lacked stability in the leadership group which could potentially be seen as the cause for the decision. The former Indian skipper had signed a three-year deal with the franchise for the role of Mentor, but she has decided to opt away after two seasons.
However, this development also coincides with Mithali’s new appointment as a mentor for women’s cricket operations with the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA). Mithali’s new appointment with ACA is signed for an adoration of a three-year contract.
Apart from Mithali Raj, Gujarat Giants’ bowling coach Nooshin Al Khadeer too has parted ways with the franchise after being involved since the inaugural edition of the tournament. The former Indian bowler was roped for a two-year contract but has decided to further not extend it.
Gujarat Giants, who finished at the bottom in the previous two seasons are expected to announce replacements soon for the respective roles which comes at a crucial time with the WPL auction around the corner which is set to take place on December 15 with the team looking for a fresh start.
With the team looking for a better season after two tough seasons, the upcoming auction stands an opportunity to build a core ahead of the third season.
