RCB beat Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets to clinch their 1st WPL Title

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have finally ended their trophy drought as they Beat Delhi Capitals in the final of the second edition of the Women’s Premier League. Delhi Capitals suffered a similar fate as their last finals against the Mumbai Indians. Everything seemed to be going the Delhi Capitals’ way until the 8th over of the first innings as they looked set for a big total. Delhi Capitals looked set as they were 64/0 at the end of 7 overs and had an unreal collapse, losing their 10 wickets while adding just 49 runs to the total.

Shreyanka Patil and Sophie Molineux were the stars with the ball in hand as they claimed figures of 4/12 and 3/20 respectively. Asha Shobhana also claimed 2 scalps as RCB restricted the capitals to a below-par total.

Shreyanka Patil went on to win the Purple Cap this season as she claimed 13 wickets in her 8 games.

Chasing a precarious total, the RCB opening batters ensured that no tentativeness crept into their approach.

Smriti Mandhana and Sophie Devine stitched a great opening partnership of 49 runs to give an impetus to the run chase. Smriti Mandhana scored a 39-ball 31, while Sophie Devine scored a 27-ball 32. Ellyse Perry came in next and played a responsible knock and added the finishing touches with Richa Ghosh.

Ellyse Perry was awarded the Orange Cap for the highest runs scorer of the tournament having amassed 347 runs in the tournament.

The Girls in red and gold held their nerves in the tense moments of the game as they registered an 8-wicket victory over the Delhi Capitals. Delhi’s wait for a trophy continues as they lost their second consecutive Final.
