Uma Chetry’s cricketing journey began with her mother’s support and encouragement. Her talent soon caught the eye of selectors, and she became the first woman from Assam to earn a spot in the Indian cricket squad. She was part of India A at the ACC Women’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup in June 2023 and in July she received her maiden call to the senior Indian squad for the series against Bangladesh.
Uma’s prowess with the bat was evident in her domestic performances for Assam. In the Senior Women’s One Day and T20 Trophy 2023, she displayed her batting prowess, amassing 115 runs in six games. Her impressive form culminated in noteworthy performances, including a stellar unbeaten 54 in the T20 format and a formidable 71-run innings in the One Day tournament.
As Uma takes her place in the UP Warriorz squad, replacing Vrinda Dinesh due to injury, Uma Chetry’s impressive performances and dedication highlight her promising future in Indian cricket.
