Shafali Verma, the latest sensation in the Indian side, has already earned a name for herself as one of the most destructive batters to ever play the game.
Shafali Verma made her WT20I debut against South Africa in September 2019. Since her debut, the opening batter has gone on to represent India in 68 WT20Is, in which she has amassed 1605 runs and has scored at a strike rate of 130.27. She holds the record for being the youngest ever men’s or women’s player to attain the no.1 ranking in ICC’s players ranking. In the recently concluded Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2023, she made all-round contributions for her domestic side as she scored 215 runs and also contributed with the ball, accounting for 10 wickets in just 7 games.
In the previous edition of the WPL, Shafali combined well with Meg Lanning at the top of the order, scoring most of Delhi Capitals‘ runs. Shafali featured in 9 games last season scored 252 runs for her franchise and was amongst one of the top run-getters of the tournament. She notched 2 fifty-plus scores and scored at a towering strike rate of 185.29. She will be hoping to replicate a similar performance this season.
