Wicket-keeper batter Beth Mooney returns as the skipper of the Gujarat Giants in the 2nd edition of the WPL.
Gujarat Giants appointed Australian wicket-keeper batter Beth Mooney as the skipper of the side in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premeir League. However, the Gujarat Giants skipper suffered a knee injury in the tournament’s inaugural game against the Mumbai Indians. She was eventually ruled out of the tournament due to her injury. The 29-year-old all-rounder was named as the stand-in skipper for the Gujarat Giants for the rest of the season.
The Giants had a season to forget as they finished at the bottom of the points table with four points from eight games. Their couple of victories came against RCB and DC. The 2nd edition of the WPL will get underway on 23rd February 2024 and conclude on 17th March 2024. The Giants invested heavily in the likes of Kashvee Gautam, Phoebe Litchfield, etc. The New Zealand veteran pacer Lea Tahuhu came in as a replacement for Australian pacer Lauren Cheatle who was ruled out of the 2nd edition.

However, the franchise have officially made an announcement naming Beth Mooney as the skipper of the Gujarat Giants and Sneh Rana will be her deputy for the upcoming edition of the WPL. The Gujarat Giants will be keen to make a strong bounce back in the upcoming edition of the WPL.
Beth Mooney is having a great time with the bat after returning from injury. She scored 410 runs at a strike rate of 120.58 and an impressive average of 41 in 13 innings in the T20I format for Australia in the year 2023. Her tally of runs included four half-centuries in 2023. She has also made a bright and confident start to the year 2024 by scoring 256 runs at a strike rate of 118.51 and a humongous average of 64 in 6 innings in the T20I format so far this year. Her tally of runs include three half-centuries so far this year. She is at the top of the T20I Batting Rankings with 773 points. She is also approaching closer to the top of the ICC Women’s ODI Batting Rankings. She is currently placed at the 3rd position with 717 points.
The 29-year-old all-rounder Sneh Rana is appointed as Beth Mooney’s deputy for the upcoming edition of the WPL. She played a crucial role with the ball in helping India seal a historic victory over England (30 and 0, and 2/25 and 0/19) and Australia (9, 3/56 and 4/63) in the red-ball format at home. The Gujarat Giants will be keen to prove their mattle in the upcoming edition of the Women’s Premier League.
