In the ongoing ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2025, Scotland has been dealt a major blow in their campaign as promising all-rounder Darcey Carter has been ruled out due to injury. The nature and extent of the injury have not been disclosed, but it has been deemed serious enough to sideline her for the remainder of the tournament.

In her absence, Kirsty McColl has been called up as a replacement. McColl, known for her consistent performances at the domestic level, will look to seize the opportunity and contribute to Scotland’s quest for World Cup qualification.
The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before being officially added to the squad.
The Committee of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Qualifier consists of Gaurav Saxena (ICC General Manager – Events & Corporate Communications), Clive Hitchcock (ICC Senior Cricket Operations Manager), Christian Chiketa (ICC Manager – Global Pathway Events), Usman Wahla (PCB Director International Cricket Operations), Shandre Fritz (ICC Match Referee).
In Scotland’s opening match of the campaign, Darcey Carter scored 25 runs from 48 deliveries and made an immediate impact with the ball, dismissing opener Qiana Joseph for a duck in her very first over against West Indies.
Meanwhile, Kirsty McColl, who now replaces Carter in the squad, was part of Scotland’s team at the 2025 U19 Women’s T20 World Cup held in Malaysia. She is yet to make her debut for the senior squad and has been handed over with immense responsibility. It remains intriguing whether she will earn a place in the starting eleven for the upcoming clashes.
Scotland’s nail-biting 11-run victory over the powerful West Indies was no less than a statement, courtesy of the efforts of wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Bryce who scored a brilliant half-century, while Katherine Fraser’s three-wicket haul overpowered the valiant efforts of a bruised centurion Hayley Matthews, as the Scottish side seek to qualify for an ODI World Cup for the first time. They will next lock horns with hosts Pakistan at the Lahore City Cricket Association Ground on April 11.
In the six-team tournament, each team will play in a round-robin format, and the top two sides will book their place for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, scheduled to take place in India in September-October.
