‘Bangladesh Eye Improvement Ahead of Crucial Sri Lanka Clash,’ Fahima Khatun

Bangladesh remains optimistic ahead of their crucial encounter against Sri Lanka in the ongoing World Cup, with spinner Fahima Khatun believing that the team has gained valuable learnings from their campaign so far. Reflecting on their performances, Fahima said, “I think in the last few games we lost the game, but we had few positive sides but unfortunately we lost the game against England and South Africa. The batters really did well. I think we need to add a few more, it will be better.”

While Bangladesh’s bowling unit has been one of the team’s biggest strengths this tournament, their batting inconsistencies have often cost them momentum. Addressing the need for improvement, Fahima agreed that the issue needs to be worked on at the domestic level. “Yes we need to practice more on batting friendly wickets. This time we practiced for the last 2 days, this wicket is really good and the batters will show their skill.”

Fielding, another key area of concern, also came under the scanner after their game against South Africa. Fahima acknowledged the lapses but was quick to highlight the positives. “Last few games our fielding was really good but against South Africa if we would have taken those catches the scenario would have been different. But talking about fielding and bowling we did really well.”

Bangladesh’s middle order has struggled to convert starts into big scores and rotate the strike effectively. Fahima revealed that the team has addressed these concerns internally. “We have discussed this and this situation on how we will manage so hopefully we will do better in tomorrow’s game.”

Speaking about their preparation and confidence ahead of facing Sri Lanka, Fahima said, “We did really well in the practice game against Sri Lanka. We are pretty confident about this. Our batters did really well against Sri Lanka in the practice match. Hopefully they do the same in today’s match and in this type of conditions we already adjust very well. Three four batters did really well. Our captain is a very good batter. She practiced well and today she will do better.”

When asked about the experience gap between the two teams—Sri Lanka having more seasoned players over 30, while Bangladesh features a younger core—Fahima remained upbeat. “The last few games against our bowlers did really well against Australia, England and South Africa. It’s a positive side for us but we try to play as a team.”

While the semi-final race looks tight, Fahima remains realistic yet hopeful about Bangladesh’s chances. “We still have a chance. 4th spot is difficult but at least make it to 5.”

Sharing insights on their final preparations, she added, “We have practiced really well, the wicket is really good: batters and bowlers both will be benefitted. The mistakes we made in the last game we had discussions on. We think we are in good shape.”

As Bangladesh gear up to face Sri Lanka, the team’s focus will be on translating their fighting spirit into consistent performances, a step forward in their growing journey on the world stage.
