Asked about playing in front of a passionate Indian crowd, Edwards said, “We’ve been lucky that we’ve played a lot against India over the last 12 months, including in England. We’ve got lots of experience against them, but this is a one-off game now, in India, in a World Cup, and a massive one at that. We’re preparing like any other game. We know the threats India poses, but equally, we have some wonderful players within our group. It’s all set up for a fantastic game tomorrow.”

Reflecting on England’s previous escape against Pakistan, Edwards remained composed. She said, “You have to move on quickly in a tournament like this. We’ve reviewed that last game, Pakistan played really well, but we’re not dwelling on it. We’re focusing on India. We know how tough the challenge will be, especially in their home conditions.

“But that’s exciting. It’s exciting to be here tomorrow, in front of a massive crowd all supporting India, but it’s two important points up for grabs for both teams. There’s a real sense of excitement in our group.”

When asked about India’s emerging pace bowlers, Edwards smiled as she reflected on an old memory. She shared, “I met Kranti Goud when I was in Mumbai, she was a net bowler two years ago. To see her rise now and perform the way she does is incredible. Kranti had a brilliant English summer, and she’s definitely one to watch out for.”

Asked about coming up against Harmanpreet Kaur, who she had coached at Mumbai Indians, Edwards said warmly, “I’ve got huge respect for Harman and her team. That’s what high-level sport is about, isn’t it? Competition. We’ve done all our preparation, we’ve trained tonight, and we’re ready to go tomorrow. May the best team win.”

After a difficult summer with injury and fitness, Sophie Ecclestone’s return has been one of the standout stories for England. Edwards expressed her admiration, “I’m incredibly proud of Sophie. She had a tough winter, worked through some issues, and most importantly, she’s enjoying her cricket again. You can see it in her bowling. That four-wicket spell was unbelievable. She’s in a really good headspace and excited to be out there playing for England again.”

Having coached in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) the past three seasons, Edwards was asked if her approach differs now. “I don’t coach differently now. The WPL was more T20-focused, but in England, you’re across all formats. I absolutely love the role I’m in. I’ve got a huge passion for this team and I’m enjoying being back in this setup.”

Summing up the team’s mindset before the big clash, Edwards emphasized positivity and focus, “We’ve learned lessons, we’ve spoken about what needs improvement, but there’s no panic. If you’d told me a few weeks ago that we’d be unbeaten going into this stage, I’d have taken it. Our best cricket is still to come, and what better place to show it than here in India.”

As England takes on India – a contest filled with familiarity, rivalry, and respect. With Charlotte Edwards at the helm and the side eager to respond after a rare defeat, expect an enthralling battle under the lights.
