In the 10th and final warm-up game leading up to the 2024 Women’s Twenty20 (T20) World Cup, South Africa and India will face off on the 1st of October 2024. The match will be played at the ICC Academy Ground, Dubai, starting at 7:30 PM Indian Standard Time (IST). Both teams come into this warm-up with contrasting performances; while South Africa suffered a heavy defeat in their first game, India registered a convincing win.
Fresh off an away series win, an in-form South Africa was rattled in their first warm-up match, bowled out for just 92 runs. Skipper Laura Wolvaardt top-scored with 33 (37), while Nadine de Klerk and Annerie Dercksen contributed with scores of 11 and 19, respectively. Spinner Seshnie Naidu took one wicket for South Africa in the second innings, with the only other dismissal coming from a run-out; however, a few bowlers delivered economical spells.
Having drawn a series against India mid this year and recently handing Pakistan a 2-1 series defeat, South Africa entered the warm-up games with momentum on their side. Following their disappointing performance in the first warm-up, the 2023 T20 World Cup runners-up will hope to regain their form ahead of the tournament.
In their first warm-up match, India’s top order was dismissed cheaply, but Jemimah Rodrigues and Yastika Bhatia mounted a strong recovery. While Bhatia fell for 24 (25), Jemimah’s impressive 52 (40) helped India post a competitive total of 141/8. Early wickets set the tone for India’s defense, and after a promising recovery partnership, the Windies collapsed again, allowing the disciplined Indian bowling attack to restrict them to 20 runs short.
Mid this year, India whitewashed Bangladesh in a five-match away series and drew a home series against South Africa. They also reached the Asia Cup final unbeaten but were defeated by Sri Lanka. In the first warm-up, India managed a narrow win that was far from dominant, and they will aim to tick all boxes in this second warm-up match.
In their head-to-head record from 16 T20Is, including three matches that ended without a result, India holds the edge with 10 wins, while South Africa trails closely behind. This sets the stage for another exciting contest between the two teams.
