“She’s very naughty, gets so much happiness and positivity to the team,” says Harmanpreet Kaur

Shafali Verma has entertained the crowd with her brilliant performance. She is a six-hitting machine and has managed to gain global attention through ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. She is not just a charmer on the field but also off-field.

Wonder girl Verma has scored stunning 161 in four matches in Australia. She has been a big contributor to India’s four Group A victories so far with fearless batting despite being in her first global tournament.

Team India was the first one to qualify for Semifinals of the World Cup. The match will be held in SCG and India will play against England. With the major match coming up, and Women in blue seem excited, captain Harmanpreet Kaur revealed about the positive vibes the team gets from the star youngster Shafali Verma.

“She’s very naughty, gets so much happiness and positivity to the team, always wants to enjoy it,” said Kaur on Verma, who was today named as the top-ranked batter in the MRF Tyres ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings.

“And when batting with her she’s motivating you and releasing pressure, that kind of player you need in your team.

“She's enjoying the moment. Whoever is playing, wants to play for the country and give their best, she's enjoying for the team. We're wishing her good luck. Click To Tweet

“Now this team has been together for a long time, we learn a lot from each other, learn a lot of cricket.

“Right now, what we are trying to do, is give individual roles so that everyone can come and perform for the team. I didn’t perform with the bat but the team is doing well and we are enjoying that. That is more important for us.”

Undoubtedly, Verma as an opener has been consistent in her performance and has given her team a great start in every match. However, she needs to continue with the same energy as the match ahead is very crucial for team India. In the Semifinals, India will face team England.

Never before have they beaten Heather Knight’s side in the competition. It includes an eight-wicket defeat in the 2018 semi-finals.

However, team India is riding a wave in Australia with the dominance of their wins. The most impressive victory of the Indian squad was their opening match victory over host Australia itself. Captain Harmanpreet is confident about her team’s efforts and knows that they have come a long way.

“After losing the last semi-final, as a team, we realized that we have to work as a unit, and right now you will see that our team is working as a unit and we are not reliant on just one or two players,” she said.

“We just need to keep doing the right things and just focus on the right things instead of worrying about the past.

“We cannot change that, we are looking positive and I hope we will play as a team and try to win.
