In the Pre- Women’s T20 World Cup warm-up match against South Africa, Sri Lanka’s Achini Kulasuriya was hit hard in her head when she misjudged a catch while fielding on- long on catching Chloe’s hit shot high in the air, as the ball hit her head at the moment she laid her face downwards motionless for several minutes. Her teammates and the batters all rushed towards her. Although she was responsive when checked by the medics and was taken off the field on a stretcher. This incident occurred during the pre women’s T20 World cup warm-up match in the practice super over, Match was called off after this incident.
She was taken to the nearest hospital, was discharged late on Sunday afternoon and returned to the team’s Adelaide hotel.
A Sri Lanka team spokesman told cricket.com.au that -“Kulasuriya had been responsive as she was carried from the field, and she was discharged from hospital late this afternoon and returned to the team’s Adelaide hotel.”
Prior to the world cup from 21st February, teams are taking part in warm-up matches. Sri Lanka is in group A alongside hosts Australia, India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh. Sri Lanka doesn’t have any international fixtures in their window, hence they will contest in the warm-up games against South Africa and England in Adelaide, before their campaign commences against New Zealand on February 22 in Perth.
