It’s well known that in any journey the process matters more than the result. To acknowledge one’s journey or process acts as an inspiration to the aspiring ones. Star Sports has recently launched a new campaign #TakeOnTheWorld which features our own sixteen-year-old Shafali Verma prior to the upcoming T20 World Cup. This campaign focuses on her story from her childhood to her selection in the Indian team.
This highlights her passion for the sport and all the hurdles she has been through to reach the game she loves. Shafali knew from a very young age that she wanted to play cricket for India and did everything in her capacity to make her dream true. The campaign will show one such phase of her life where she stood out in the boy’s team replacing her sick brother, telling us this is how you seize the opportunities coming your way.
Shafali, a very strong-headed individual, her determination lead her to train alongside boys in the local club. Her father and coaches from that time groomed her to become the confident cricketer she is today. She hails from Rohtak, Haryana and achieving such a feat is a big thing. To reach such a place isn’t easy but all the hard work and dedication paid off for Shafali and she is definitely an asset for the Women in blue.
Sachin Tendulkar is her idol and like a fairytale, she has broken her Idol’s 30- year old record in just 15 years of age by becoming the youngest Indian to ever score a half-century in International Cricket.
Here are Shafali’s T20I stats.
Rohit Sharma, #MenInBlue Vice-Captain in limited-overs launched the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign #TakeOnTheWorld on his handle. World cup starts from 21st February, 1st match will be played between India and Australia.
