The dashing left-hand opener is a core member of the Indian squad. She is right up there among the best international openers in the current circuit. Even at the age of 23, Smriti Mandhana starts as the senior opener and the second most senior Indian squad member in terms of matches played. India will be relying on her to provide quick starts and more importantly to stay until the end. Her experience playing in the Women’s Big Bash League will be handy. Having led the team in Harmanpreet Kaur’s absence last year, she is also a key part of the leadership group. She was the highest run-getter in the recently concluded tri-series held in Australia with scores of 15(10), 35(23), 45(40), 55(48), and a quick-fire 66(37) in the final. She must be eager to translate her good form into some huge match-winning knocks for India.
