It was a beautifully contested match where Warwickshire set a highly competitive target of 166 for 5 in their 20 overs, driven by standard-setting top-order contributions. However, Hampshire’s batting depth and composure under pressure shone through as they chased down the total, reaching 167 for 6 with a full over to spare, ensuring their magnificent seventh straight victory of the competition.

Having won the toss and elected to put Warwickshire in, Hampshire’s bowlers initially struggled to find the breakthrough against a disciplined opening pair. Warwickshire’s innings was built around a brilliant, calculated anchor role from Katie George, who smashed 67 off just 49 balls, including 7 boundaries and 2 massive sixes.

Alongside steady support from Georgia Redmayne (26 off 24 balls), George laid a formidable platform. The middle-order kept the foot on the gas with Charis Pavely chipping in with a quickfire 21, followed by an explosive unbeaten cameo from Emily Arlott, who hammered 22 runs off just 10 deliveries at a blistering strike rate of 220.00 to push the score to 166.

Hampshire’s bowling unit had to work exceptionally hard on a pitch that offered average assistance to the batters. Skipper Georgia Adams led from the front with a fine display of slow bowling, picking up 2 crucial wickets for her efforts while keeping a tight leash on the scoring. She was ably supported by Amanda-Jade Wellington, Naomi Dattani, and Daisy Gibb, who all picked up a wicket apiece to disrupt Warwickshire’s attempts to completely run away with the game in the final overs.

Chasing 167 was never going to be a walk in the park, but Hampshire approached the chase with the swagger of a team sitting pretty at the summit of the table. Though they lost Ella McCaughan early, Georgia Adams and Abi Norgrove (11) anchored the team to 37/2 inside 5 overs. Francesca Sweet (14) joined Adams as they moved to 78/2 by the ninth over, not letting the net run rate climb.

Though Georgia Adams (53) then fell with 90 on the board and Amanda-Jade Wellington (2) shortly, slipping to 97/5, before Nancy Harman led the fightback. She stepped up with a 26-ball 49, six fours, one six, lifting Hampshire to 152/6 (16.3) with work still to be done. Naomi Dattani (19* off 18) and Poppy Tulloch (9* off 11) provided the finishing touches as they got to 167/6 with 6 balls to spare.

Mary Taylor (2/13 off 2) and Hannah Baker (2/26 off 3) kept Warwickshire in the game with wickets in regular intervals but the total proved a little too much. Millie Taylor (1/22 off 2) and Amu Surenkumar (1/15 off 3) also were among the wicket takers.
