Durham Women produced a commanding run chase to defeat The Blaze Women by seven wickets in an entertaining Women’s T20 Blast 2026 clash at Nottingham. While The Blaze posted a competitive total after several batters made useful contributions, Durham’s top order, led by captain Hollie Armitage and Mady Villiers, ensured the visitors chased down the target with five balls remaining. The match featured a number of significant partnerships, momentum shifts, and impactful bowling performances that kept the contest alive deep into the second innings.

After being sent in to bat, The Blaze Women began positively through captain Marie Kelly and Tammy Beaumont. The experienced pair attacked from the outset and added 36 runs for the opening wicket. Kelly looked particularly aggressive, striking six boundaries in her 28 from just 15 balls at a strike rate of 186.66. Durham finally broke through when Trudy Johnson dismissed Kelly, while Katie Levick removed Beaumont for 12 to leave The Blaze at 40/2 during the powerplay.

Charli Knott joined Georgia Elwiss and together they attempted to rebuild the innings. Their partnership added 35 valuable runs for the third wicket before Knott fell for 14, caught by Abigail Glen off Johnson. Elwiss continued to hold the innings together with a composed knock of 31 from 24 deliveries, finding the boundary three times. Alongside Ella Claridge, she added another 31 runs for the fourth wicket, helping The Blaze move past the 100-run mark. Claridge struggled to accelerate and was eventually dismissed by Glen for 10, leaving the score at 106/4.

The innings received another boost from Emma Jones, who provided the acceleration that The Blaze needed in the death overs. Jones smashed 24 runs from only 13 deliveries, including five boundaries, and shared a useful partnership with Elwiss that took the score to 112/5 after Elwiss departed.

Prisha Thanawala contributed 5 runs before becoming Heather Graham’s second wicket. Georgie Boyce chipped in with 12 from 10 balls, while Lucy Higham added 2 and Grace Ballinger managed 1. Despite losing wickets regularly in the closing stages, The Blaze kept the scoreboard moving through smaller contributions and crucial lower-order runs. Maria Andrews remained unbeaten on 1 as The Blaze were bowled out for 153 in 19.5 overs, with 13 extras also contributing to the final tally.

Durham’s bowling attack delivered timely breakthroughs throughout the innings. Mady Villiers was the standout performer with 3 wickets for 21 runs from 3.5 overs, dismissing Ella Claridge, Georgie Boyce, and Grace Ballinger. Trudy Johnson claimed 2/35 and removed both Marie Kelly and Charli Knott. Heather Graham also picked up two important wickets, finishing with figures of 2/30. Katie Levick was economical while taking the wicket of Tammy Beaumont and ended with 1/21 from four overs. Sophia Turner and Abigail Glen each collected one wicket, although both were slightly more expensive.

Chasing 154, Durham Women suffered an early setback when Mady Villiers, after an excellent all-round display, was dismissed for 47. Before her departure, however, she and captain Hollie Armitage had already laid a superb foundation. The opening pair added 83 runs for the first wicket, effectively taking control of the chase. Villiers struck seven boundaries in her fluent 47 from 34 balls before becoming Emma Jones’ first victim in the 11th over.

The Blaze sensed an opportunity when Emily Windsor was dismissed without scoring just four balls later, with Jones striking again to reduce Durham to 83/2. However, Armitage remained composed at the crease and ensured there was no collapse. She found an ideal partner in Bess Heath, and together they produced the defining partnership of the match. The pair added 43 runs for the third wicket, steadily reducing the target while maintaining control of the required run rate.

Bess Heath played an outstanding supporting role, scoring 36 from only 18 deliveries. Her innings included five fours and a six at a strike rate of 200, putting The Blaze bowlers under immense pressure. Heath eventually departed at 126/3, caught by Marie Kelly off Charli Knott, but by then Durham were firmly in command.

With only a handful of runs required, Armitage and Heather Graham calmly completed the task. Armitage anchored the chase magnificently with an unbeaten 50 from 47 balls, striking five boundaries and leading from the front. Graham contributed a valuable unbeaten 15 from 12 deliveries, including two boundaries, as the duo shared an unbroken 30-run partnership to guide Durham to 156/3 in 19.1 overs.

The Blaze bowlers struggled to consistently contain Durham’s top order. Emma Jones was the most successful bowler with figures of 2/21 from three overs, dismissing both Villiers and Windsor. Charli Knott claimed the wicket of Heath and finished with 1/32. Grace Ballinger bowled economically without reward, conceding 26 runs from four overs, while Georgia Elwiss, Lucy Higham, and Maria Andrews were unable to make breakthroughs despite their efforts.
