After electing to field first, Surrey Women made an immediate impact with the ball, ensuring Durham never settled into a rhythm. The breakthrough arrived early when captain Hollie Armitage struggled to get going and departed for just 1 off 7 deliveries, caught by Laura Harris off Bethan Miles, leaving Durham Women at 1/5 in 1.1 overs. Despite the shaky start, Mady Villiers attempted to counterattack, smashing 15 from only 9 balls, including two boundaries and a six. Alongside Emily Windsor, who looked composed for her 17 off 19 deliveries, Durham tried rebuilding through a 35-run partnership for the second wicket. However, pressure from Surrey’s disciplined bowling eventually resulted in Villiers being run out by Alice Monaghan at 37/2 in 4.6 overs.

Emily Windsor continued to anchor the innings and stitched together another important stand with Bess Heath. The duo added five runs for the third wicket, but Windsor’s dismissal for 17, caught by Kira Chathli off Ryana MacDonald-Gay at 42/3 in 6.1 overs, once again disrupted Durham’s progress. Bess Heath then looked to inject urgency into the innings with an attacking 28 off 25 balls, featuring a boundary and a six. She found support through Mia Rogers, who contributed 18 off 19 deliveries, as the pair crafted Durham’s most substantial stand of the innings, a 29-run partnership for the fifth wicket. That stand briefly revived Durham after Heather Graham had fallen for a duck to Ryana MacDonald-Gay at 42/4 in 6.2 overs.

Mia Rogers’ departure at 71/5 in 11.3 overs, followed shortly by Grace Thompson for a duck at 71/6 in 11.4 overs, handed Surrey complete control. Sophia Turner fought for her 7 from 13 deliveries, sharing a modest stand before becoming the seventh wicket to fall at 94/7 in 15.2 overs. Trudy Johnson also departed without troubling the scorers, while Lauren Filer chipped in with a brisk 5 from 5 balls before falling at 98/9 in 16.6 overs. Durham Women eventually closed their innings at 102 all out in 17 overs, with Katie Levick unbeaten on 2.

Surrey Women’s bowling unit played a defining role in restricting Durham to a below-par score. Ryana MacDonald-Gay emerged as the standout performer, producing a superb spell of 4-1-11-6, removing key batters including Emily Windsor, Heather Graham, Grace Thompson and Trudy Johnson. Bethan Miles was equally impressive, taking 2 wickets for 10 runs in 2 overs, while Alice Monaghan claimed 1/22 in 3 overs. Danielle Gregory (0/19), Kalea Moore (0/17), and Alice Davidson-Richards (0/21) maintained pressure throughout with economical support.

Chasing 103, Surrey Women’s innings never quite gained complete control despite the modest target. Durham struck early through Trudy Johnson, who removed Bryony Smith for 5 after Kira Chathli and the skipper had added 10 runs for the opening wicket. Chathli continued positively, scoring 17 off 15 deliveries with two boundaries, but after a single-run stand with Alice Davidson-Richards, Surrey slipped to 11/2 in 2.4 overs when Davidson-Richards departed for a duck.

The chase remained tense despite Jemima Spence trying to accelerate with an entertaining 24 from 17 balls, including four boundaries. Chathli and Spence built a promising 36-run partnership for the third wicket, pushing Surrey into a stronger position before Chathli was dismissed at 47/3 in 5.6 overs. Paige Scholfield contributed a quick 3, but her dismissal alongside Spence’s wicket at 68/5 in 8.5 overs reopened the contest dramatically.

Laura Harris steadied proceedings with a handy 11 off 9 balls, adding useful runs with Alice Monaghan. Monaghan played the anchor’s role brilliantly, remaining unbeaten on 20 off 19 deliveries, guiding Surrey through nervous moments. Though Kalea Moore (2) and Ryana MacDonald-Gay (4) departed cheaply, Surrey continued inching closer. Eventually, Bethan Miles stayed unbeaten on 2 as Surrey Women reached 103/8 in 16.4 overs, sealing victory with 20 balls to spare.

Durham Women’s bowlers ensured Surrey had to fight for every run. Lauren Filer led the attack with 3 wickets for 30 runs in 4 overs, while Heather Graham (1/19) and Trudy Johnson (2/20) kept the pressure firmly on. Katie Levick bowled tightly despite going wicketless, conceding 26 runs in her four overs, while Mady Villiers chipped in with 1/7.
