Wellington Blaze have had a mixed Women’s Super Smash season so far, with 3 victories from the five games that they have played so far. In their previous match against Central Hinds, they were given a target of 155 runs to chase from 20 overs.
They didn’t have the best of starts as Georgia Plimmer had to walk back for a duck. Rebecca Burns tried to keep the hopes alive with a controlled half-century, and Jessica McFaydyen tried to revive the game with a late cameo, but the Blaze ended up losing by just 5 runs. As they take on Otago Sparks, they will be looking to turn things around this time out, after having a narrow defeat the other day.

Rebecca Burns
Rebecca Burns wasn’t at her best at the start of the tournament, with just 18 runs from her first 4 matches. However, in the last match against Central Hinds, she showed promising signs, suggesting that she is regaining her touch. She even stood tall for the Blaze with a fighting 56, keeping the hopes alive for the Blaze. She could be the player to watch out for as she has shown signs of improvement and could be a valuable batter at the top order.
Xara Jetly
Xara Jetly has been simply outstanding this season for the Blaze as she is the leading wicket-taker this edition, with 8 wickets from just 5 innings. She has bowled at an economy of 5, and her best figures were 3 for 21 against Auckland Hearts. She has been the best bowler this tournament with an average of just over 12, which indicates her wicket-taking ability. Jetly will be on the radar of the Sparks as she will be an obvious threat that their batters will look to play out during the play.
Ellyse Perry
Ellyse Perry is another star on this side, who has been among the run-getters with the bat in this campaign. Perry has scored 72 runs from her 3 innings, with 39 being her highest score. She has been quite good with the bowl, as she has picked up 5 wickets from just 3 innings at an economy of 6. She could be a player to look out for with her ability to contribute with both bat and ball, and after already playing 3 innings, there’s a high chance she steps up her game as well.
