Top 3: Central Hinds Players to Watch Out Against Canterbury Magicians

Central Hinds have had a bit of a rollercoaster start to the 2025/26 Women’s Super Smash season, facing some early setbacks against heavyweights like Wellington Blaze and Otago Sparks. While they struggled with batting depth in their opening games, they finally found their groove with a dominant 7-wicket win over the Canterbury Magicians on New Year’s Day. This victory was a much-needed boost for their confidence and their standing on the points table.

As a unit, the Hinds are known for their incredible team spirit and a never say die attitude that often sees them punch above their weight. Their bowling unit looks settled and disciplined, but the key to a deep playoff run will be finding more consistency from the top-order batters. If the senior players can continue to support the rising stars, the Hinds have every chance of repeating their finals heroics from previous seasons.

Claudia Green

Claudia Green has been a model of consistency and control at the start of this Super Smash season. In a standout performance against Wellington Blaze, she led the attack with precision, finishing with figures of 2/20 from her four overs. Her ability to maintain a tidy economy rate of around 7 while providing early breakthroughs has made her the Hinds’ most reliable wicket-taking option so far. Since the start of 2024, her evolution as a frontline seamer has been evident, and her current form suggests she is only getting better. She has picked up 3 wickets in the tournament so far and watching her move the ball early on remains one of the highlights of the Hinds’ bowling display.

Rosemary Mair

Rosemary Mair continues to prove why she is such a vital asset to the squad, particularly through her versatility as an all-rounder. She has already contributed 45 runs across her initial outings, including a gritty 33 off 32 balls that helped stabilize the Hinds during a tough collapse against Otago Sparks. Beyond her lower-order punch with the bat, her bowling remains as sharp as ever; she recently earned Player of the Match honors for her efforts against the Canterbury Magicians, where she claimed 1/8 in a rain-affected clash. Her leadership as vice-captain, combined with her big game temperament, makes her the heartbeat of this team.

Flora Devonshire

Young gun Flora Devonshire is quickly establishing herself as a force with her dual-threat capabilities. She anchored the Hinds’ batting effort against the Blaze with a composed 34 off 28 balls, showing a level of maturity that belies her age. On the bowling side, she has been equally effective, maintaining an excellent economy rate of 6.00 and ranking among the tournament’s best for dot-ball percentage. Her ability to dry up runs in the middle overs while chipping in with valuable runs at the top or middle order provides the Hinds with the tactical flexibility they need to challenge the top-tier sides. She has scored 65 runs in 3 innings of the tournament so far, striking at 166.66 and is a valuable asset for her side going ahead into the tournament.
