Team India starts the 2022 World Cup with a big win against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, March 6th. Winning the toss, Team India went out to bat first. Shafali Verma got out for a duck putting India under immediate pressure. Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma had a 92 run partnership.

Deepti Sharma got out for 40 and Smriti Mandhana scored a fine half-century. The middle-order collapsed and team India was reduced to 114 for 6. Pooja Vastrakar and Sneh Rana stepped up and brought back team India into the game. Pooja scored a magnificent 67 and Sneh Rana scored a good unbeaten 53.

Together, they stitched in a 122 run partnership which is the highest 7th wicket in Women’s ODI cricket history. India ended up scoring a good score of 244 for 7 at the end of 50 overs. Nida Dar and Nashra Sandhu to 2 wickets each with Diana Baig, Fatima Sana, and Anam Amin chipping in one wicket each.

Pakistan was lifeless in their batting as they never looked confident in chasing off the target. The run rate was below 3 throughout the match. Openers Sidra Ameen and Javeria Khan gave in a 28 run start. As soon as Javeria got out, the wickets fell at regular intervals. The Indian spinners were having a great time with the ball. Rajeshwari Gayakwad took 4 wickets for 31 runs with Sneh Rana and veteran Jhulan Goswami chipped in with 2 wickets each never allowing Pakistan batters to settle.

Team India bowled out the arch-rivals for 137 and won the match with a big margin of 107 runs. India will go on to play the hosts New Zealand in their 2nd match on Thursday, March 10th at Hamilton.
